• Polygyny was and is more common tan polyandry or group marriage.

• Wealthy men accumulated many wives to produce more sons.

• Chinese history, polygyny was common for rich Chinese men to have a wife and
various concubines.

• According to traditional Islamic, a maximum of 4 wives is allowed by the Koran.

• Classical Jewish literature indicates that polygyny was permitted at an earlier


time.

• Polygamy was widespread among American Indian tribes.

• In Nepal was once very common the practice of fraternal polyandry.

• Polygamy of either sort is far less common tan it used to be.
