Dynamic conversion between TCH and PDCH

 to reduce the impact of GPRS services on GSM voice services, Huawei GPRS BSS
Supports dynamic conversion between TCH and PDCH
 In GPRS BSS channels are classified into fixed channels, voice channels and dynamic
channels
 fixed packet channels (PBCCH, PCCCH, PDCCH, PDTCH)
 fixed voice channels (TCH, BCCH, SDCCH)
 Dynamic channels (TCH, PDCH)

4
GPRS/EGPRS Important parameters

1. Channel Type

 For built-in PCU case

 If channel type is set to TCH Full Rate, the BSC supports overall dynamic PDCH and
PDTCH may not be configured

5
GPRS/EGPRS Important parameters

2. Maximum Ratio Threshold of PDCH in a cell

 this parameter sets the maximum number or ratio of PDCH allowed in a cell
 The total number of TCHs and PDCHs available in a cell is fixed. The PDCH ratio is equal
to PDCHs / (TCH/Fs + static PDCHs). This parameter determines the proportion of
PDCHs to the total number of TCHs + PDCHs
 Actual Value Range (0-100)
 GUI Value Range (0-100)
 Default value (30)

GPRS/EGPRS Important parameters

3. PDCH downlink/uplink Multiplex Threshold

 this parameter sets the capability of a cell to process packet services

 The downlink PDCH can carry a maximum of (threshold/10) TBFs
 Actual value range (10-160)
 GUI value range (10-160)
 Default value (80)

 The uplink PDCH can carry a maximum of (threshold/10) TBFs

 Actual value range (10-70)
 GUI value range (10-70)
 Default value (70)

GPRS/EGPRS Important parameters

4. Downlink/Uplink Multiplex Threshold of Dynamic Conversion

 This parameter specifies the downlink multiplex threshold of dynamic channel

conversion.
 When the number of subscribers carried over the channel reaches the threshold/10,
dynamic channels are used.

Downlink:
 Actual value range (10-80)
 GUI value range (10-80)
 Default value (20)

Uplink:
 Actual value range (10-70)
 GUI value range (10-70)
 Default value (20)

GPRS/EGPRS Important parameters
5. Level of Preempting Dynamic channel and Reservation Threshold
of Dynamic channel conversion
 When voice service is busy, the BSC convert PDCH into TCH
 Voice services take priority over packet services to guarantee the QOS of voice services
 These 2 parameters sets the capability of a cell to preempt PDCH

Level of Preempting Dynamic channel:

 This parameter specifies the levels of dynamic channels preempted by CS services and
PS services. Only full-rate TCHs are the dynamic channels that can be preempted
 Actual value range (0,1,2)
 GUI value range (all dynamic channels can be preempted, control channels cannot be
preempted, dynamic channels carrying services cannot be preempted)
 Default value (all dynamic channels can be preempted)

Reservation Threshold of Dynamic channel conversion:

 This parameter specifies the number of channels reserved for the CS services.
 Actual value range (0-8)
 GUI value range (0-8)
 Default value (2)
 Caution: This parameter is invalid when "Level of Preempting Dynamic Channel" is set
to "All dynamic channels can be preempted".

9
GPRS/EGPRS Important parameters
6. Initial coding schemes parameters and dynamic rate adjustments
parameters

GPRS:
 Downlink CS default type
 Uplink CS default type
 Downlink fixed CS type
 Uplink fixed CS type

EGPRS:
 Downlink MCS default type
 Uplink MCS default type
 Downlink fixed MCS type
 Uplink fixed MCS type
