    Sir C.V. Raman was the first Indian to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics. He was born in 1888 in Tamil Nadu, India and received his education in India. He is most famous for his discovery of the Raman effect in 1928, for which he received the Nobel Prize. The Raman effect shows how light scattering can change the wavelength of photons, providing information about molecular structure and rotations. Raman made many contributions in the field of physics and helped establish research institutions in India. He received many honors and awards for his scientific work and was knighted in 1929.
