Notification Introduction

Notification information is reported to the EMS

when a transient event occurs in the managed
network, such as a state change. Generally, such
an event has no direct effect on services.

By displaying notifications on the client interface,

the EMS notifies maintenance personnel of the
network running status that should be concerned.

If the same notification is repeatedly generated,

the event causing the notification should be
processes immediately because it may influence
services.

open the New dialog box.
3. select an alarm rule and

corresponding alarm setting
dialog box appears. Set the
related parameters.
4. Click OK. Then, the alarm
rule is completely set.
Alarm Acknowledging Rule

 An alarm
acknowledging rule
can be set for the
automatic
acknowledgement of
some alarms. After
this rule is activated,
the system
automatically
acknowledges the
received alarms that
meet the conditions.
Alarm Clearing Rule

 An alarm Clearing rule

can be set for the
automatic clearance of
some alarms. After
this rule is activated,
the system
automatically clears
the alarms that meet
the conditions.
Alarm Filtering Rule

 An alarm filtering rule can be set

for automatic filtering of alarms
received by the EMS. After this
rule is activated, the system
automatically filters the alarms
that meet the conditions.
 Two types of alarm filtering are
available. One is display
filtering, indicating that the
filtered alarms are not displayed
on the interface. The other is
alarm suppression, indicating
that the suppressed alarms are
neither displayed on the
interface nor stored in the
database.
Alarm Delaying Rule
 When the network is instable or
under test, many alarms are
recovered shortly after being
reported and then alarm
clearance is reported. These
kinds of intermittent alarms are
minor alarms in most cases. If
large numbers of such alarms are
displayed on the timing monitoring
interface, it is difficult for EMS
operators to notice the alarms
with high severity levels.

 An alarm delaying rule specifies

the alarms that are reported only
if they are not automatically
recovered after the specified
duration. This can reduce the
number of alarms monitored in
real time in the EMS.
Alarm Merging Rule

 NEs may report

repetitive alarms
caused by the same
fault in some cases.
An alarm merging rule
is used to merge the
alarms meeting the
preset matching
conditions and display
the first reported
alarm.
Alarm Persisting Rule
 An alarm persisting rule is
used to count the persistence
duration of a state for the
alarms meeting the specified
conditions. If the duration of
the alarm staying in a fixed
state reaches the predefined
threshold, designated
operations are performed,
such as raising the severity
level or generating a new
alarm.
 After an alarm persisting rule is
created, NetNumen M31
counts the persistence
duration of the specified state
for the alarms meeting the
conditions. If the duration
exceeds the threshold,
subsequent actions are
performed.
Alarm Counting Rule
 An alarm counting rule can be
used to manage alarms that
frequently occur. If an alarm
meets the preset conditions in
the rule, the EMS will raise a
counting alarm when the
count of this alarm received
by the EMS exceeds the
preset threshold. You can
describe this new alarm and
specify its severity level in the
alarm counting rule.
 After an alarm counting rule is
activated, the system starts
counting the occurrence times
of the alarm that meets the
preset conditions in each
sampling period, compares
the count with the preset
threshold, and determine
whether to generate a
counting alarm.
Alarm Restraining Rule by NE
 An alarm restraining rule
is used to restrain the
reporting of another batch
of alarms by using the
alarm data of specified
conditions. The alarm
restrain rule-NE enables
the alarms of different
NEs to restrain each
other.
 The alarm restraining
other alarms is called root
alarm. The restrained
alarm is called
consequential alarm.
Consequential alarms are
not reported as long as its
root alarm is generated or
existing.
Alarm Forwarding Rule

 An alarm forwarding
rule can be used for
automatic forwarding
of alarms. If an alarm
forwarding rule is
activated, when the
alarms meeting the
preset conditions, are
reported or not
recovered after a
period, the system will
forward them to
related personnel as
specified in the rule via
short message and/or
Email.
Alarm Masking Rule
 The alarm masking
rule is used to mask
the alarms meeting
the specified
conditions. The rule
is directly sent to the
source NE of the
alarm, thus
preventing the NE
from reporting the
alarm. It helps to
save network
bandwidth.
 The alarm masking
rule can mask
reported alarms
according to NE,
alarm code, or
severity level.
Alarm Restraining Rule-NE Type
 The alarm restraining
rule is used to restrain
the reporting of another
batch of alarms by using
the alarm data of
specified conditions. The
alarm restrain rule by NE
type enables the alarms
of the same NE of the
same NE type to restrain
each other.
 The alarm restraining
other alarms is called
root alarm. The
restrained alarm is called
consequential alarm.
Consequential alarms
are not reported as long
as its root alarm is
generated or existing.
Alarm Triggering Rule

 Alarm triggering
rule is used to
display an alarm
only after defined
amount of
occurrences in
defined period.
Notification Filtering Rule

 A notification filtering
rule can be used for
automatic filtering of
notifications received
by the EMS. If some
notifications meet the
preset conditions in
the rule, the system
automatically filters
these notifications,
which will neither be
stored in the
database nor
displayed on the
client interface.
