History Of Italy Italy has been inhabited by many different people over long periods of time. The first people believed to discover Italy were the Indo- Europeans around 2000 B.C. Italy was never unified as a country until 1861 when the Sardinian King Victor Immanuel II finally brought all of Italy together to unite it. Then Italy became a fascist country and supported Nazi Germany in WW2 when Benito Mussolini and his party ruled Italy from 1921 to 1943. Culture The Italian culture is commonly associated with food, music and art but their food is the most commonly known thing about them. Some of their known foods are Pasta, Pizza and Gelato (Ice Cream). Family is an extremely important value within the Italian culture because their family solidarity is focused on extended family and Italians usually have frequent family gatherings. The major religion in Italy is Roman Catholic and it is home to the Vatican City where the Pope lives.
