ENERGY METER PER HOUR

AVERAGE MAX AND MIN LOAD

DISPLAY ON LCD

Project Guide, Presented By,

Name Name(Reg No)
ABSTRACT
• This project is to monitor the average power
consumption using maximum and a minimum display
over the consumption of power
• A rapid increase is prevailing in the power consumption
in and around us everyday
• This will result not only in scarcity of power generation
but also leads to huge burdens to a common man.
OBJECTIVE
• This device is to fulfill the multiple purposes of the
consumer and finally impart a control over the power
consumption
• To monitor over the power being consumed daily
• Our aim in designing this device is to fulfill the multiple
purposes of the consumer and finally impart a control
over the power consumption
Existing system
• In existing system reliability is to operate and a user-
friendly output is not good.
• So every small parameter should be given high
importance while designing the interfacing circuit
between the controller and the energy meter
• System power calibration is done without
microcontroller so less precession.
Proposed System
• Using Embedded system microcontroller to continuous
monitor of maximum power consumption of load
• Controller interfaced with a 240 volts energy meter
• The amount of power consumed is displayed on this
LCD
• This the controller is also interfaced with alarm to
indicate fault and average condition
MAJOR BUILDING BLOCKS

 Energy meter.
 Microcontroller.
 LCD.
 Regulated power supply with voltage regulator.
 LED indicators.
 Buzzer.
BLOCK DIAGRAM
WORKING
• The microcontroller is a 5 volts device and it is
employed to monitor the household power
consumption per hour where it should be interfaced
with a 240 volts energy meter.
• The microcontroller will count the pulses when the
devices gets the supply and derive the equivalent
average, Min and Max loads for that hour duration.
• When the power consumption exceeds , buzzer alarms
• The usage of power is calculated based on watts and
noted on LCD display
FUNCTIONS OF THE COMPONENTS
• MICRO CONTROLLER: The device input and output
modules are controlled with help of a micro controller,
which is the control unit for the entire system.
• ENERGY METER : interfaced with the microcontroller
• INTERFACING CIRCUIT: Capable of counting the pulses
• REGULATED POWER SUPPLY: a power with a voltage
regulator
• LCD &LECD: to indicate the power consumption
ADVANTAGES
• The major advantage of this system is its reliability to
operate and a user-friendly output.
• Huge power consumptions can be brought under
control.
• This system also helps Transco department to impose
tax if the average power consumption per hour is more
than the prescribed level by which we can control the
consumer from wasting the power.
