OSCILLOSCOPE
An oscilloscope is a laboratory
instrument commonly used to
display and analyze
the waveform of electronic
signals. In effect, the device
draws a graph of the
instantaneous signal voltage as
a function of time.
What can scope measure?
Scope can measure both time-based and voltage
based characteristics
Timing Characteristics: Voltage Characteristics:
• Frequency and • Amplitude
period • Maximum or Minimum
• Duty Cycle Voltages
• Rise and Fall • Mean and Average
Voltages
A. Timing Characteristics
• Frequency and period – Frequency is defined as
the number of times per second a waveform repeats. And
the period is the reciprocal of that (number of seconds
each repeating waveform takes).
• Rise and fall time –The duration of a wave going
from a low point to a high point is called the rise time fall
time measures the opposite
• Pulse Width (PW) -is the elapsed time between the
rising and falling edges of a single pulse.
