Some examples

Egberth is twelve years old and lives in Kampung Limbahau Papar. He is an obedient and careful boy
who always listens to his parents. He also likes to help other people and very polite to elders too. Last
Sunday, Egberth’s mother asked him to go to the grocery shop nearby his house to buy some sugar. He
walked to the shop as it was just a few blocks from his house. Reaching the shop, he bought a packet
of sugar and returned home a few minutes later.
As he was walking home slowly by the side of the road, he saw a boy who was cycling
recklessly as he passed by him on the road. As he continued walking, suddenly a bicycle knocked him
from behind. It was the same boy he had seen earlier. The boy had lost control of his bicycle while
cycling, so he knocked Egberth and they both fell on the road immediately.
Egberth who was carrying the packet of sugar that he bought earlier was thrown together
with the sugar onto the ground. When he looked around him, he saw the sugar had spilt on the ground.
He then looked at the boy who had also fallen off from his bicycle, shocked of what had happened.
The boy apologized to Egberth for what had happened. He promised to Egberth that he will never ride
recklessly again and also promised to replace the sugar that had spilt on the ground.
Egberth advised the boy not to play the bicycle on the road again. It was dangerous and one
might get hurt if one had an accident like what had just happened. The boy thanked to Egberth and
went to the shop to buy the packet of sugar and gave it to Egberth. Then the boy walked home limply
with the bicycle because he had hurt his leg.

near their house. They cycled slowly to the stream because it was a breezy afternoon. It made
their journey less tiring. They wore caps because it was a hot and blazing day.
Farid and his friend brought their nets and plastic bags. They also brought two
bottles of mineral water and some sardine sandwiches. Upon reaching the place, they parked

Possible answers to practice 1
Every year, Azmi’s school will hold the School Sports Day. Each time he will take
part in the events. Last Saturday, Azmi’s school held the annual sport’s day. At each
corner of the field, there were tents set up by the teachers for the participants to get
ready. There were buntings all around the field. There were also flags posted at
each tent. There was a large crowd who were standing around the field to give
support to their teams.
Before the events started, some of the athletes did their warm-up
exercises before they took part in any of the events. Azmi took part in the 100
meters event. When he was called to the starting point, he was so excited but at the
same time, he felt nervous. He ran very fast that he won the event.
At the end of the sport’s day, the headmaster gave the trophies to the
winners. Azmi was selected as the best athlete in the men’s event because he won
more gold medals than the other athletes. He was so proud to represent the school
to the next inter school sports events. His effort to keep fit during the training
session had indeed given him the motivation to win his favourite event. As the
saying goes, ‘make every effort to do something’.
