Politics in Minangkabau Culture

The Minangkabau politics is a political system of

Minangkabau people that has developed since
centuries ago. This system is based on two customary
systems in Minangkabau, namely the Koto Piliang
System and Bodi Caniago.In its development, these
two opposing systems gave birth to the Minangkabau
political system based on democracy, egalitarian, and
social justice.
Social Organizations in Minangkabau
Culture
The social system of the Minang community is matrilineal, which is a social system
that follows the lineage of the mother. A social system that is rare in this world that
attracts the interest of experts and researchers. The matrilineal system according
to anthropologists is the oldest social system of society that was born long before
the birth of the patrilineal system that developed now.

The kinship system in Minangkabau is as follows:

1. Heredity is calculated according to the maternal line
2. The tribe is formed according to the mother's line
3. Revenge is a system of obligations for all tribes
4. The power within the unit according to the theory is in the hands of the
mother but is rarely used.
5. Each person is required to marry an outsider
6. The real power is his brother.
7. Marriage is matrilocal in that the husband visits the wife's house
