• Hybrid bearings, which combine hardened steel rings with rolling elements made of high-
performance ceramic materials, are an increasingly popular option for demanding
applications.
• Ceramic balls are also non conductive. Ceramic bearings are available in all standard
industry configurations. Such as Angular Bearings, Thrust Bearings, Pillow Block Bearings,
Needle Bearings, and Roller Bearings.
PROPERTIES
• Ceramic Bearing balls are typically made from ( Si3N4) Ceramic silicon nitride and have
greater hardness than steel balls resulting in longer ball life.
• Ceramic Bearing balls have smoother surface finishes than most steel bearing balls.
• Thermal properties are also better than steel balls which results in less heat generation due
to friction at high speeds.
• Ceramic Bearing balls are rated at higher spin rates than steel bearing balls.
• Ceramic Bearing balls can weigh up to 40% less than steel once depending on size and
material.
• The lighter balls allow the bearings to spin faster and uses less energy to maintain its speed.

CHARACTERISTICS
REDUCED WEAR FROM VIBRATION
• Equipment exposed to static vibration risks false brinelling, (erosion of the surfaces within
the ball and raceway contacts), which can lead to spalling and premature failure.
• Lighter weight ceramic balls and dissimilar materials reduce the risk of false brinelling
damage considerably.
REDUCED WEAR FROM CONTAMINATION
• Solid particle contaminants can create dents in bearing rolling surfaces and raised edges
around those dents.
• This condition causes noise and premature wear as the steel balls roll over those surfaces.
• Harder ceramic balls smooth the surface roughness with no material removal, thereby
reducing noise and wear while reducing bearing service life.
