ABSTRACT
• The polar moment of inertia for an assembly of solid objects was calculated using the
“TRIFILAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM”.
• The mass moment of inertia (I) is the measure of an object’s resistance to changes in rotation
direction about a specific axis.
• The higher the object’s mass moment of inertia, the lower is its angular acceleration.
• The mass moment of inertia plays the role of mass in rotational dynamics.
• I = m𝑟 2
I = moment of inertia
m = mass
r = distance between the axis and rotational mass
EXISTING SYSTEM
• In Bifilar suspension, the pendulum body is suspended over two threads.
• The pendulum body oscillates in a plane purely translationally without rotation.
• This kind of pendulum can be considered as mathematical pendulum.
• In a Trifilar suspension with three threads, the pendulum body is set in a torsional vibrations.
• The torsional vibrations can be used to determine the moment of inertia by experiment.
APPLICATIONS

• The equivalent mass of the rotating parts of the vehicle such as shafts, drive
trains, road wheels, etc can be determined by Trifilar suspension system if the
inertia is known.
• The most usual laboratory technique for measurement of moment of inertia is
the use of Trifilar suspension system.
