Proportioning of areas of footings :-
The Process of designing of footings for equal settlement is
known as proportioning of areas of footings.

PROPORTIONING OF FOOTING FOR EQUAL SETTEMENT:-

To reduce differential settlement due to L.L.(I.L) variations
for footings on fine grained soils, it is desirable to proportion
all footings of a structure in such a way that they have equal
pressures under service loads.
*
*

The loading on individual column varies to a great extent from

column to column; depending upon grid size and plan size of
the structure.

When there is a variation in column loads, there is a variation

in pressure intensities under the footings depending upon the
extent of live load acting on columns.

This variation do cause the unequal settlements of footing

causing incorporation of fixity sinking moments and
subsequently cracking of structures
AN EXAMPLE OF PROCESS OF
PROPORTIONING OF FOOTING :-
* A floor consists of 6 columns having loads as
below:-

COLUMN 1 2 3 4 5 6

DEAD LOAD 600 400 750 500 600 750

LIVE LOAD 300 80 250 360 400 100

FOOTING 1 2 3 4 5 6

If SBC of is 150 kN \ m2 , carryout proportioning of

footing
