ENGINE ASSEMBLY SECTIONS

In KSRTC buses we generally use 6 cylinder engines of TATA, LEYLAND and

EICHER. Here, we were able to observe much about the engine parts, its working
and functions and also the repairing methods adopted. Cylinder block from the
dismantled engines is cleaned and then boring and honing is done to remove
wear.
• Engine overhauling and assembly section: cylinder block from the dismantled
engine is cleaned, then boring and honing is done to remove wear, the valve is
grinded to proper finish and valve seat is lapped, the damaged piston is replaced
by new one.crank shaft is coated with recommended lubricant.
. Grinding the engine cylinder.here the same machine is
used to attach the cylinder liners to the engine block
Body Building Department
. The starting point of the coach building starts from the structure section. Here

the newly arrived engines come for primary structure development.

. The whole outer body structure is divided into three major parts namely top,
bottom and sides.
The floor consists of 16 horizontal bars which takes the overall load
capacity of the bus. After that they are inter connected with cross bars.
The left and right sides of the bus are separately done as shown in the
figure. These are made using rectangular steel bars.
WELDING SECTION
The shows the final arrangement at the structure section. All the parts are welded
together using carbon-di-oxide welding. Since CO2 welding is more rigid,
stronger than normal electrode welding.
Final Structure after Welding
• At last all these parts are welded onto the chassis to form the full structure.
Panelling Section
PAINTING SECTION
The bus after the panelling section is moved to painting section where the whole
inner and outer sections of the body are covered with specified colour. This section gives the
aesthetic look to the vehicle.
SEMI FINAL SECTION
In this section the empty bus which is painted in painting section is fitted with interiors
like driver cabin, bar supports, passenger seating, luggage carrier, interior lightings as
well as the exterior lighting .
FINAL SECTION
• This section also has an arrangement to fit all the toughened glass fittings like
front wind shield glass, side windows rear window, mirror attachment. All
these glass fittings are procured through suitable action.
• Parallely the top (roof) section of the body is covered with water proofing
sheets. These sheets are made of tar and comes in rolls.
• Finally it gets into water test region for inspection of water leakage.
