Background
Within one year time span, chili cultivation will encounter a fluctuating
selling price. The highest price fluctuations are in October, November,
December, and January.
The high prices in those months can’t be separated from the various
problems faced by farmers, from the beginning of the cultivation until
entering harvest period.
Common problems that farmer ussualy face :
Calculation :
Rain shelter are installed starting from 75 days after planting until harvest time.
At the present time, the cost differences begin to emerge from the amount of
fungicides used and the labor, as well as the cost of plant sanitation.
COMPARISON OF MAINTENANCE COST
Week With Rain Without Rain Week With Rain Without Rain
Shelter Shelter Shelter Shelter
1 $116 $168 9 $56 $186
Loss of results due to this sort of thing is enormous. Within 3.5 months of chili
cultivation harvest period :
• With rain shelter can produce 1,150 grams / stem
• Without rain shelter only produce 950 – 1,000 grams / stems
This difference occurs because the fruit is wasted due to dead plants, due to
withered, rotten fruit or exposed to “pathek” disease (antraknosa).
If we count the wasted chili fruit is approximately 150 grams / stem, with an
average price Rp 20,000 then in 1 hectare area, potensial revenue lost is
= 150 gram x 22,200 plant
= 3,330 kg
= 3,330 kg x Rp 20,000
= Rp 66,600,000
= $4,593 USD
Lost from potential income reach $4,593 USD per single hectare area, if doing
cultivation without rain shelter.
