TASK 2

Unit 22

Linear (Ordered
Structure Start,
middle, End)
In literature, narrative refers to the telling of a story through the
presentation of events. When authors use linear narratives, the order in
which events are portrayed corresponds to the order in which they occur.
Stories told using this narrative structure will have a clear beginning,
middle and end. They might begin with a description of the setting, have
events leading up to a climax (the point where there is the most tension or
drama in the story) and end with a resolution in which all the problems
that arose during the narrative are either resolved or accepted.:

2
Nonlinear
(No exact order)
Nonlinear narrative, disjointed narrative or disrupted narrative is
a narrative technique, sometimes used in literature,
film, hypertext websites and other narratives, where events are
portrayed, for example, out of chronological order or in other
ways where the narrative does not follow the direct causality
pattern of the events featured, such as parallel distinctive plot
lines, dream immersions or narrating another story inside the
main plot-line. It is often used to mimic the structure and recall of
human memory, but has been applied for other reasons as well..
3
Flashback A flashback is a transition in a story to an earlier time,
that interrupts the normal chronological order of events.
A flashback in a movie might show what happened when
a character was younger. Flashbacks are often used for
comedic effect, to prove or contradict something in the
present.

4
Realist Cinematic realism is neither a genre nor a movement, and
it has neither rigid formal criteria nor specific subject
matter. ... In the first instance, cinematic realism refers to
the verisimilitude of a film to the believability of its
characters and events. This realism is most evident in the
classical Hollywood cinema.

5
In anti-realism, the truth of a statement rests on its
demonstrability through internal logic mechanisms, such
as the context principle or intuitionistic logic, in direct
opposition to the realist notion that the truth of a statement
rests on its correspondence to an external, independent
reality. In anti-realism, this external reality is hypothetical
and is not assumed.

6
alternative ending is a term used (usually in movies) to
describe the ending of a story that was planned or
debated but ultimately unused in favor of the actual
ending. Generally, alternative endings are considered to
have no bearing on the canonical narrative. On the
internet, amateurs may make their own alternative

ENDINGS
endings.
