TEACHING AID

An object(such as book, picture or map) or device(such as a dvd


or computer) used by a teacher to enhance classroom instruction
is called teaching aid.
In other words the process of teaching-learning depends upon
the different type of requirement available in the classroom.
There are many aids available these days like audio ,visual and
audio-visual aids.
According to Dend- Auscilary material is the material that help
in understanding the text or written text in the classroom or other
Learning.
OBJECTIVES OF TEACHING AIDS
• It makes lesson interesting.
• It helps students to concentrate in the lesson.
• It helps in explaining the difficult content.
• To make students active.
• For the sustainability of acquired knowledge.
• To develop study interests.
• Making text content simple and informative.
CHARATERISTICS OF TEACHING
AID
• Teaching aids are large enough to be seen by the students for
whom they are used.
• Teaching aids are meaningful and they always stand to serve a
useful purpose.
• Teaching aids are upto the mark and up to date in every respect.
• Teaching aids are simple, cheap and may be improvised .
• Teaching aids are accurate and realistic.
• Teaching aids are according to the mental level of the learners.

• Teaching aids are really very useful and can be used in many
lessons and at different class levels.
• Teaching aids are useful for supplementing the teaching process
but they cannot replace the teacher.
TYPES OF TEACHING AIDS
There are many aids available these days, we may classify these
aids as follows:
• Visual aids
• Audio aids
• Audio-visual aids
 Visual aids- The aids which use sense of vision are called
visual aids. For example:- actual objects, models, pictures
charts, maps, flash cards etc. Out of these blackboards are the
commonest ones.
 Audio aids- The aids that involve the sense of hearing are
called audio aids. For example:-Radio, tape recorders,
gramophone etc.

 Audio-visual aids- The aids which involve the sense of


vision as well as hearing are called audio-visual aids. For
example:-television, film projector, film strips etc.
IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING AIDS
Teaching aids play an very important role in teaching-
learning process.
Importance of teaching aids are as follows:
• Motivation- Teaching aids motivate the students so that they
can learn better.
• Clarificaton- Through teaching aids, the teacher clarify the
subject matter easily.

proper understanding to the subjects which discourage the act of
cramming.
• Increase the vocabulary- Teaching aids helps to increase the
vocabulary of the students more effectively.
