WHAT ARE AUDIO – VISUALS?

•Audio-visuals (AV) is a mode of materials


for instruction which is described by the
delivery and the use of instructional content
that involves sound (auditory stimuli) and
sight (visual stimuli).
PURPOSE OF AUDIO – VISUALS

• Save energy and time.
• Antidote of the disease of verbal instructions.
• Capture attention.
• Reinforcement to learner.

NEED FOR AUDIO - VISUALS
1) Every individual has the tendency to forget. Proper use of
teaching aids helps to retain more concept permanently.
2) Students can learn better when they are motivated properly
through different teaching aids.
3) Audio – visuals develop the proper image when the
students see, hear, taste and smell properly.
4) Audio – visuals provide complete example for conceptual
thinking.
5) Audio – visuals create the environment of interest for the
students.
6) Audio – visuals help to increase the vocabulary of the
students.
7) Audio – visuals help the teacher to get sometime and make
learning permanent.

EDUCATION

theoretical and practical application in the communication
field utilizing various resources and methods of inquiry.

communication and critical thinking skills.

• They supply a concrete basis for conceptual thinking and hence, reduce
meaningless word response of students.

• They offer a reality of experience which stimulate self activity on the part of
pupil.

• Decreases teacher’s autonomy in the classroom


• For effective functioning of the audio-visual aids
the trained experts are required which is not
possible all the time

•Digital media is any form
of media that uses electronic devices
for distribution. This form
of media can be created, viewed,
modified and distributed via
electronic devices.
•Examples of digital media include
software, digital images, digital video,
video games, web pages and websites,
social media, digital data and
databases, digital audio such as MP3,
electronic documents and electronic
books.

•A lecture recording provides an
audio and visual record which
students can repeat as many
times as they need. Any part of
a lecture can be found easily
and played back.

means for educators to address and
deliver the required curriculum content.
Videos are mostly very
demonstration-friendly.

DISADVANTAGES OF
TV CLIPS/YOU TUBE
Playing video can use a lot of the bandwidth and
may take time to load.
The video could be a distraction if the structure of
the video is not aligned to what needs to be taught.
It is hard and time consuming to find quality
videos.
TAKE - AWAY
• The importance of audio visuals (AV) in education should
not be underestimated. There are two reasons for this; one,
learning via AV creates a stimulating and interactive
environment which is more conducive to learning; two, we
live in an audio-visual age which means that having the
skills to use AV equipment is integral to future employment
prospects. Therefore exposure to AV technology in
education is imperative.
