Concept..
•The building are a reflection of the mountains surrounding thecampus .
•A miniature model reflecting the jaggedcontours.
•Continuity and harmony achieved through consistency betweenthe
architectural language and environment.
•Architectural language evolved through the selection offunctional
components like door lintels, window shade boxes, ventilators and
waterspouts.

Layout planning:
-The whole site is divided into two parts - ACADEMIC andRESIDENTIAL
connected by awalkway.
Continuity and homogenity between the buildings to be maintained.
Entries:
-One main entry, one residential entry, one service entry
Entrances must be segregated.
Proximity of main entry points to the academic block. This avoids confusion for the
users.

View:
-Nothng is seen from the main entry. Only after the huge opening door, the main
building is visible.
Block should stand as a landmark.
Proximity:
-CANTEEN  Closer proximity to academic block than dormitories.

•The college campus nestled in the Sahayadri Hills, between two rivervalleys.
• Educational part is totally separated from the residences andhostels

DESIGN FEATURES....
•Hierarchy of space played important role indesign.
•Used sequence of open, semi enclosed and closed spaces to create learning
environments.
•Climate ranges from hot-dry to cool-rainy to chilly-dry in annual cycle ; This is
exploited in design as all class rooms have verandas and extent into courtyards.
•Low covered walkways in teaching areas provide spaces for informal
gatherings.
•Covered porches act as pavilions for discussions, project meetings and
contemplation.

•It encircles a gardencourt.


•Quadrangle and class rooms are linked by glass doors.
•So each classrooms thus connected to its own garden orcourtyard.
•The three corner rooms in the academic quadrangle are thefaculty
rooms for language, mathematics and social sciencerespectively.
•The quadrangle is linked by an encircling, low coveredwalkway
•This space is detached from the stone walls except where it connects
to classrooms
•The ceiling of the walkway cast witha ‘Sacred’ river mural running a
complete circle around the quadrangle.

complex angular composition
•A sloping Mangalore tile roof
and a ventilation tower offer
visual accent to this complex
structure.

•Includes offices for the

room, faculty room, and others.
•Asquare shape of board room reflects
the shape of the science
centre.
•The building uses sloped Mangalore
tile roofs, stone towers and basalt
masonry walls.

of 160 triangular coffers set within
10 larger triangles defined by
structural beams.
•There are 10 skylights in these

Library ..
•Triangular composition on two levels focussed in on a glassatrium.
•The lower floor of the reading room uses the natural gradient, thus it a
generous space.
•Parallel beams , aligned withthe main wall, alternately hold skylights
and fluorescent lights.
•The corners of the triangle form the reading room, computer centre and
stacks.
•Circular columns supporting the beams are used visually to demarcate
spaces
•Slit windows diffuse light into theinterior.

•The three studios of the art
centre fly out from a central
courtyard.
