Integrated
circuit
• Definition

•An integrated circuit (IC), also known as a chip or

microchip, is a structure of small dimensions of
semiconductor material, usually silicon.

• Advantage:
*Cost: It has all its components printed in a
photolithography unit de photolithography

*Performance: its performance is high, since the CI

components change rapidly and consume little energy.
• Classification

• SSI (Small Scale Integration) small level: from
10 to 100 transistors

• MSI (Medium Scale Integration) medium: 101 to
1000 transistors

• Large LSI (Large Scale Integration): 1001 to 10
000 transistors

• Very large VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration):
10 001 to 100 000 transistors

• ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration) ultra large:
100 001 to 1 000 000 transistors

• GLSI (Giga Large Scale Integration) large giga:
more than one million transistors
Integrated circuit 555

• The timer IC 555 is an integrated circuit (chip) that is

used in the generation of timers, pulses and
oscillations.
• it is used for time delays, such as an oscillator, and
as an integrated circuit flip flop
