Presentation on Busbar Arrangement,

Busbar Protection(87B)
&
Breaker Failure Protection (50BF)
What is a “Busbar”?

 A system of electrical conductors in a

generating, transmission and distribution
substation in which electrical power is
concentrated for transmission or distribution.
 Generally busbar is a good quality
conductor used to carry a large amount of
current
General Busbar Arrangements-
 Switchgear arrangement in a busbar is one of the major facts
that affects the reliability of a substation.
 Optimum busbar arrangement criteria majorly depend on
importance & location of the substation, initial investment cost,
demand of power and lastly, frequency of maintenance.
 There are seven major types of busbar arrangement-
1.Single bus
2.Double bus, single breaker
3.Double bus, double breaker
4.Main & transfer bus
5.Double bus with breaker bypass isolator
6.Ring bus
7.Breaker and a half or one and a half busbar arrangement
