BUSINESS IMMERSION (BI)
 Business Immersion at KIAMS enable students to understand
the industry and also to learn industry practices.

Chetan GK, KIAMS


 It is an attempt to bridge the gap between academia and
industry.

 Duration of the BI is 13 weeks (2nd April to 29th June, 2019)

 The program carries a weightage of 6 credits in Trimester - IV.

 This will be evaluated for 300 marks.

 Students have to meet and discuss (in person or over phone) 2


with the respective faculty guides (FGs) before they depart to
their Business Immersion.
OBJECTIVES
 To provide an opportunity to the student interns to
practice the concepts learnt, in real-life situations.

 To sensitize the student interns to the nuances of
workplace by assigning time-bound projects in the
company.

 To create awareness among the student interns about


their strengths and weaknesses in the work
environment.

 To provide the student interns on-the-job training and


develop a network which will be useful in enhancing 3
his/her career prospects.

 Note: In case student interns fails to submit 2


reports; he/she would be disqualified to submit
the BI Final Report and hence redo his/her BI
with the junior batch or after completion of 6th

 In this case, if the BI Company permits, interns


are allowed to carry out a business related
research in the BI Company.

PROJECT PROPOSAL
 Abstract: A problem statement (research) of
about 250 words describing what the project is
going to be.

and the value-addition to the company.

BASIS TWO: NON-RESEARCH BASED PROJECT
 In case, if the BI Company prefers the students
to work on their business related area rather
than on a research, the proposal should have the

 the specific work assigned by the company,

 targets going to be achieved (if any) by the


student intern,
 any specific value addition that may be
happening to the company,
 what could be probable learning experience,
expected value addition to the student intern by

undertaking BI in the company.
DRAFT REPORT:
 The draft report should be submitted in MS
Word Doc. to the respective Faculty Guides, and
to kiamsbi@gmail.com.

 It should be submitted one week after the last
date of closure of the BI term in the company.

Note: In addition to this, the student interns


should mark a copy of the Draft Report to
bireports@kiams.ac.in

DRAFT REPORT CONTD.
 The Draft Report should be prepared according to the
format of final report as shown in the ‘Final Report’
section below.

 All Draft Reports will undergo plagiarism verification by a
suitable software.
 If the Draft Reports are detected with 30% and more
plagiarized content; the student will be prompted by the BI
Faculty Coordinator to bring it down below 30% while
submitting the Final Report.

 Students who submits the Final Report after the 19


plagiarism check, and still have 30% and more plagiarized
content will secure a grade drop in BI.
FINAL REPORT & MS-PPT:
 Final Report and MS-PPTs should be submitted
to the respective FGs, bireports@kiams.ac.in and
to kiamsbi@gmail.com.

doc. only and the nomenclature to be followed is

FINAL REPORT
 The final report and MS-PPT should be
submitted within 3 weeks from the last day of the
BI term in the BI Company.

concerned FG.

 The final report should be submitted with all the


necessary changes which are advised by the
concerned FG.

IMPORTANT:
 Students should submit a MS-PPT along with the
Final Report.

 The PPTs submitted by the students in turn will
be sent to the BI viva voce panelists for their
reference.

 Under no circumstances, students will be allowed


to change/update their PPTs in the later stage.

PPT GUIDELINES CONTD.
 Students should not read from the slides. They have to
explain the bullet points mentioned on the slides.

 Students should establish proper eye contact with the
panelists.
 Presentation which they make should be crisp and
convincing to the audience.
 Students at any circumstances should not demonstrate
dis-satisfaction about the Company Guide (CG) during
presentation.

 Students should ensure that the objective of the project

and project done are on the same lines.

 Students will be given 25 minutes (excluding 5
minutes for Q&A) to present before the expert
panel.

 Students those who have undertaken non-
research based projects should include one or two
cases which they encountered while doing their
internship in their PPTs.

 Three panelists in the BI viva voce. That is two


from industry one is KIAMS alumnus.

Do’s
 Get an overview of the Company/Industry in
which you are placed.

 This includes understanding the core business of
the company, organizational chart, key personnel
in the company, manufacturing units, marketing
channels, financial policies, etc.

 Obtain a copy of the latest annual report and


analyze the financial statement, wherever
possible. 26

meetings/discussions.

Get in touch with the Faculty Guide, if the situation

 Maintain strict confidentiality of the company’s


information.

 Consult the Faculty Guide or refer to textbooks to


reinforce relevant concepts.

 Always submit bills in time when reimbursement
from the BI Company is to be claimed.

 Always be polite in your dealings and maintain cordial
relationship with the Company Executives.

 Always be positive and open to suggestions.

 Get conversant with the company’s policies/rules


before incurring expenditure.

 Always be present whenever the FG or the BI faculty

 Criticize the company’s policies and the Company
Executives.

 Criticize or make adverse comments about KIAMS and/or
the Faculty Guide.

 Attend the office in informal dress.

 Get into arguments and lose temper.

 Misuse the facilities offered by the company.

 Go to meetings and presentations unprepared or ill- 29

 Leave the office without prior permission from the
Company Guide.

 Be impolite or rude to the Company Executives.

 Exceed the mandate given by the Company Guide and
collect information that is confidential in nature.

 Hold back any material/equipment/accessories provided


by the company on a returnable basis.
 Borrow money or any other personal effects of the
Company Executives.

 Interfere in third party assignments. 30


 Encourage friends visiting workplace during office hours
and cause inconvenience to others.

for best student project presentation on the
Foundation Day.
