 The course aims to guide students to construct
grammatically correct sentences within well-
structured paragraphs.

Course  This course will help students understand how


to avoid plagiarism in academic writing by
Synopsis paraphrasing, summarising and using
appropriate conventions for citing and
referencing.
 Students are able to:
1. construct coherent sentences and paragraphs (C3)

2. produce summaries of academic texts (C5)

Body Paragraphs
• Exposes students to the writing process -
planning, developing ideas, writing and editing
• Guides students in constructing grammatically
correct and coherent sentences within well-
structured academic paragraphs

WRITING • Teaches students to avoid plagiarism in academic


writing by employing methods such as
PORTFOLIO paraphrasing, summarising, and using
appropriate conventions for citing and referencing
sources
• Trains students to edit and proofread their writing
Writing Portfolio

is divided into three tasks:

TASK 1 • Brainstorm a topic and supporting points


• Look for excerpts to support the supporting points
(Weeks 2-6)
• Outline two body paragraphs

TASK 2 • Develop supporting details by paraphrasing and


summarising information from excerpts and adding
(Weeks 7-9) in-text citations in APA style

TASK 3 • Write two complete body paragraphs


(Weeks 10-13) • Edit and rewrite the paragraphs
