About
Muzaffarpur is a sub-metropolitan city located in Muzaffarpur district in the Tirhut region
of Bihar. It serves as the headquarters of Tirhut division, Muzaffarpur district and the
Muzaffarpur Railway District. It is the fourth most popular city in Bihar. It is situated on
the banks of the perennial Burhi Gandak River, which flows from the Someshwar Hills of
Himalayas. Muzaffarpur is located at 26°07′N 85°24′E. The city lies in a highly active
seismic zone of India. In the disastrous earthquake on 15 January 1934, much of the town
suffered severe damage and many lives were lost. It has an average elevation of 47 meters
(154 feet). This saucer shaped, low-centered town lies on the great Indo-Gangetic plains of
Bihar, over Himalayan silt and sand brought by the glacier-fed and rain-fed meandering
rivers of the Himalayas.
Education
Muzaffarpur is the second leading center of education
in Bihar after Patna. It has a famous Business
Management College named after the renowned leader of
Mithila Late Lalit Narayan Mishra, known as L. N. Mishra
College of Business Management, Muzaffarpur. It has a
medical (Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital) and an
engineering college (Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology)
and is seat of one of the oldest universities of Bihar (Bihar
University, now known as B. R. Ambedkar Bihar
University).The headquarters of Bihar University was at
Patna. People of Muzaffarpur demanded shifting of its
headquarters to Muzaffarpur and now it’s in Muzaffarpur.

Languages Used By Us
Bajjika (dialect language of Maithili) as well as Maithili is spoken by the natives of
the district. However, Hindi is the language used for documentation. Urdu is the
second official language. English is widely spoken all over in the state. Maithili is
also a frequently used language by majority of population. The district speaking
these language are Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, part of Muzaffarpur.
Transport
Muzaffarpur Junction railway station is a main railway junction, with two suburban stations,
Ram Dayalu Nagar and Narayanpur Anant (Sherpur). It is well connected to major cities of
Bihar like Patna, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Chakia , Motihari and Darbhanga. Muzaffarpur is
amongst the top hundred booking stations of Indian Railways National Highway 57 (India)
comes via Gorakhpur, Motihari, Chakia and crosses Muzaffarpur and National Highway 57
(India) goes to Darbhanga, Purnia. The East–West Corridor crosses Muzaffarpur thus
connecting it to all the major towns and cities in India. National Highway 77 (India) starting
from Hajipur passes through Muzaffarpur and connects Muzaffarpur to Sitamarhi. National
Highway 28 (India) connects Muzaffarpur to Barauni, all 6 National Highways having junction
there.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Fan
Sudhir Chaudhary (born 1981 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar), also called Sudhir Kumar Gautam, is a fan of
the Indian cricket team and Sachin Tendulkar. He is widely recognised for attending every home
match the Indian team has played since 2003. For some overseas tours, he also collects funds from the
cricket loving public. He is usually seen with his body painted in the national colours of India, waving
the national flag in the live telecast of the matches. Since 2003, Sudhir Chaudhary's passion has been
to watch cricket matches played by India and to support the team. By April 2010, he had attended
approximately 150 matches, often traveling by bicycle to reach the venue of match. He sometimes
pedals his cycle to cricket playing venues, as he did to Bangladesh to witness a cricket match in 2007
and to Lahore, Pakistan in 2006. To save money, he sometimes braves ticketless travel in trains to
reach venues. When attending cricket matches, he paints his body with the tri- colour, the colours of
India flag, and he usually paints the name of Tendulkar on his chest.
Lichi or Lychee

The lichi crop, which is available from May to June, is mainly cultivated in the districts of Muzaffarpur
and surrounding districts. Cultivation of litchi covers approximately an area of about 25,800 hectares
producing about 300,000 tonnes every year. Litchi are exported to big cities of India like Bombay,
Kolkata, and even to other countries. India's share in the world litchi market amounts to less than 1%.
The names of the litchi produced in Muzaffarpur are Shahi and China. The fruits are known for
excellent aroma and quality. Bihar's contribution in the production of lychee in about 40 percent of
lichi produced in India. Bihar has emerged as a brewery hub with major domestic and foreign firms
setting up production units in the state. Vijay Mallya's group, United Breweries Group, is setting up a
production unit to make litchi-flavoured wine, in Muzaffarpur in 2012. The company has leased litchi
gardens.
