A term for diseases in which abnormal cells divide
without control and can invade near the tissues .
Cancer cells can also spread to other parts of the
body through the blood and lymph systems.
The incubation period of radiation induced in
adults is estimated to be about 5 years wit 90% of
the cases occurring less than 10 years after
exposure.
There is no single cause . Of the hundreds of causes
some are known and some are unknown.
Oral cancer-----related to tobacco and chewing.

Lung cancer-------death rate is higher among


smokers.
Exposure to radiation produces cancer.

Air pollution in urban areas produces cancer.

Chemicals in coal tar and in chimney sweeping.


Pitch , soot ,chromium , nickel and petroleum
products are carcogenic.
AGE:-There is no definite age for having cancer .
After the age of 50 carcinoma breast it first child at
30 years.
SEX:-Cancers are more frequent among men than
women . Cancers of the reproductive system
constitute 50 % of all cancers among women ,
where as in men they constitute only 15%.
MARITAL STATUS:-Breast cancer lower in early
maternity.
RACE:-Cancer of skin , face and neck more
common in white race.
