What is State?
State
-Is a political organization with
centralized government that exerts
authority within a certain geograpical
territory.
-Being a polity that, within a
given territory, maintains a monopoly
on the use of force.

Nation
Is consist of a distinct population
of people that are bound together by a
common culture, history and tradition
who are typically concentrated within
specific geographic region.
The word "Nation"has been
derived from the latin "Natio",
which means 'a set of people'.
Is Globalization good or
bad?
Globalization
- Is the system of interaction among
the countries of the world in order
to develop the global economy.
1. It refers to the integration of
economic and societies all over the
world.

2. It involves technological,
economic, political and cultural
exchanges made possible largely by
advances in communication,
transportation and infastructure.

- It refers to the widespread of


goods, capital, services,
technology and information.
Technological Globalization

technological deffusion, the spread of
technology across borders.

- Refers to the transmission of
ideas, meanings and values
around the world in such a way to
extend and intensity social
relations.
Political Globalization

- Refers to the growth of the


worldwide political system, both
in size and complexity.
Military Globalization
- Implies firmer integration of
armed forces around the world
into the global military system.
How will globalization
affect the Nation - State?
Globalization affect the
Nation - State in 3 ways.
1. Globalization, especially the global
market place, takes certain powers
away from nation state.
2. The more we Globalize, the more
we localize.

- Globalization creates new


possibilities and motivation for local
cultural autonomy and identities.
3. Emergence of regional groupings
on "Regional states".

- Globalization also pushes sideways.


Giddens refers to catalonia as an
example of this in the context of UE.
