What is computer monitor?
• The monitor is the piece
of computer hardware
that displays the video
and graphics
information generated
by the computer
through the video card.
Types of monitor
• There are three main types of computer:
CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor
LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor
LED (light-emitting diodes) monitor
CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors
• The cathode ray tube
(CRT) is a vacuum tube
containing one or more
electron guns, and a
phosphorescent screen
used to view images. It
has a means to
accelerate and deflect
the electron beam(s)
onto the screen to
create the images.
How CRT Monitor Works

A CRT monitor contains

millions of tiny red, green,
and blue phosphor dots
that glow when struck by
an electron beam that
travels across the screen
to create a visible image.
Features of CRT
Shadow-mask
A shadow mask is a thin metal screen filled with very
small holes. Three electron beams pass through the
holes to focus on a single point on a CRT displays'
phosphor surface. The shadow mask helps to control
the electron beams so that the beams strike the correct
phosphor at just the right intensity to create the
desired colors and image on the display. The unwanted
beams are blocked or "shadowed."
Features of CRT
Aperture-grill
The aperture grill consists of
tiny vertical wires. Electron beams pass through the
aperture grill to illuminate the phosphor on the faceplate.
Most aperture-grill monitors have a flat faceplate and tend
to represent a less distorted image over the entire surface
of the display than the curved faceplate of a shadow-mask
CRT. However, aperture-grill displays are normally more
expensive.
CRT monitor advantages
• Resolution and Aspect Ratio
• Highest Resolutions
• Black-Level and Contrast
• Color and Gray-Scale Accuracy
• Motion Artifacts
• Cost
CRT monitor disadvantages
• Sharpness
• Interference
• Geometric Distortion
• Brightness
• Screen Shape
• Emissions
• Physical
LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors

• A liquid crystal display

(LCD) monitor is a
computer monitor or
display that uses LCD
technology to show
clear images, and is
found mostly in laptop
computers and flat
panel monitors.
LCD monitor advantages
• Brightness
• Electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields
• Power
• Less span
• Screen size
• Power consumption
• Viewing angle
Disadvantages
• Aspect ratio and resolution
• Contrast
• Response times and scan rate
LED (light-emitting diodes) monitor

• An LED display is a flat

panel display, which
uses an array of light-
emitting diodes as
pixels for a video display
Advantages
• Cheap
• electronic circuit
• Reliable
• Efficient
• Life span
• Screen size
• Power Consumption
• Viewing Angle
Disadvantages
• Figures
• Low quality
• E-wastes
Computer Monitor Problems and
solution
• No display or black screen on a computer
monitor:
 Monitor is not on
 Computer is asleep
 Connections not properly connected
 Check the power cable
 Check the LED status
 Monitor settings are not correct
 Hardware Issue
Computer Monitor Problems and
solution(cont.)
• Troubleshoot monitor and video card
problems:
Reseat the video card
Exchange video
Replace video card
Replace motherboard
Computer Monitor Problems and
solution(cont.)
• Monitor issue - flickering or waves
• Monitor Shows No Signal after CPU Starts
• Fix Blank or Black Monitor Problem on a PC
Conclusion
• From the study for the last one month I have
obtained through knowledge about deferent
types of computer monitor how computer
monitor works and its advantage and
disadvantage. We also try to find out some
common problem and solution of computer
monitor; I hope it will help us in our service
life immensely.
