■ Joined the Masonic Lodge called Acasia in Madrid.(Reason: To
secure Freemasonry’s aid in his fight against Friars in the
Philippines)
■ Transferred to Lodge Solidaridad- became Master Mason in
November 15, 1890
■ Awarded diploma as Master Mason by the GRAND ORIENT DE
FRANCE in PARIS
■ • Science, Virtue and Labor- Rizal’s only Masonic writing; a
lecture which he delivered in 1889 at Lodge Solidaridad, Madrid
• Laennec Hospital- where Rizal observed Dr. Nicaise treating
his patients

• Lariboisiere Hospital- where Rizal observed the
examination of different diseases of women

Completed Medical course; was conferred the
degree of LICENTIATE in MEDICINE

■ November 1885- Rizal as apprentice of Dr. Louis de Weckert

■ February 3,1886- arrived at Heidelburg
■ University Eye Hospital- attended lectures of Dr. Otto Becker
and Professor Wilhelm Kuehne
■ Worked under Dr. Becker
Left Heidelberg a poem entitled “A LAS
FLORES del HEIDELBERG”. This is both an
evocation and a prayer for the welfare of his
native land and unification of common
values between East and West.

■ Worked in the clinic of Dr. Karl Ernest Schweigger
■ Rizal as the first Asian to be recorded with honors
for being a member of the Anthropological Society,
Ethnological Society and the Geographical Society of
Berlin. (under the patronage of famous Pathologists

■ The winter of 1886 in Berlin was his darkest winter.
■ Took 5 hours of painting lessons while taking courses in
Medicine.
■ Attended theoretical presentations, music and poetry recitals
and book launching.
■ He could converse in more than 10 different tongues (23
languages and dialects).
■ Member of Chess Club from the students of University of
Heidelberg
■ Joined and won Greek competition.
