DISASTER READINESS AND

RISK REDUCTION

Prepared by: Roxanne Mae Joyce A. Talita

OBJECTIVES
I. Identify the elements of the fire triangle.
II. Create your own version of fire triangle.
III. Appreciate the importance of fire triangle.
INTRUCTIONS:
I will play a music and as it plays, you will pass the paper
ball to your seatmate. When the music stops the person who is
holding the paper ball will act the word the I will assign. I will
give 1 minute for him/her to act and whoever can guess the word
will have a reward.
INSTRUCTION:
1. The class will be divided into 3 groups.
2. With the given materials, make a triangle that shows the relationship of
OXYGEN, FUEL and HEAT.
3. Identify on which side of the triangle the listed words belong.
4. Present your work.

Air cardboard flame spark paper

lit match wood electric cord
plastic candle cloth stove
heater
Definition:

Fire is a chemical reaction
that takes place between fuel,
heat and oxygen in the form
of light and noticeable heat.

FIND THE DIFFERENCE

How Fire Burns:

Fire occur whenever a
given materials is heated in
the presence of oxygen to a
temperature corresponding
to the kindling or ignition
point of the materials.

1. Fuel

- any substance, solid, liquid
or gas that will burn when
heated or hot enough in the
presence of oxygen.
2. Oxygen

- an element which comes
from the atmosphere we
breathe. (The atmosphere
consist of 21% of oxygen, 78%
nitrogen and 1% of other
elements) At 15% of oxygen or
below fire will subside.
3. Heat

- the temperature of
flammable substance will
give off vapor that will
ignite when flame or spark
is introduced in the
presence of oxygen.

Class A

- Fires involving ordinary
combustible materials.

(Requiring heat-absorbing
(cooling) effects of water)
Class B
- 
F i r e s involving
flammable or combustible
liquids.

(Inhibiting the presence of

oxygen/air)
Class C

- F i r e s involving the
live electrical equipments /
machines or simply
electrical fires.
Class D

- Fires involving certain
combustible metals.

(Requiring heat-absorbing
medium of extinguishing
agent)
ABSTRACTION

What are the elements of the fire triangle?
-Oxygen, Heat and Fire

Can fire still exist without one of the

elements? Why?
The Fire Triangle

ASSESSMENT

DIRECTION: Here are the ways how we can stop the
candle burning. By considering the fire triangle, identify
the element being stopped.
1. When we blow out the candle what are we stopping?
2. When we put water on the candle what are we
stopping?
3. When we use a candlesnuffer what are we taking
away?
4. When the candle has no more wax and burns right to the
end what has been taken away?
ASSIGNMENT

Bring pictures/ cut-outs which emphasize the cause of
fire.
