HAN DYNASTY
• The Han Dynasty was the second imperial dynasty of china (206 BC-
220 AD),Preceded by the Qin dynasty (221-206 BC) and succeeded
by the Three Kingdoms period (220-280 AD).Spanning over four
centuries. The Han period is considered a golden age in Chinese
history . To this day, China’s majority ethnic group refers to themselves
as the “Han Chinese”(Han Zu) and the Chinese script is referred to as
“Han characters it was founded by the rebel leader Liu Bang, known
posthumously as Emperor Gaozu of Han, and briefly interrupted by the
Xin dynasty(9-23AD) of the former regent Wang Mang. This
interregnum separates the Han dynasty into two periods: the wastern
Han or the Former Han (206 BC-9 AD)and the Eastern Han or later Han
an (25-220 AD)

THE FIRST EMPEROR
• The first emperor was Gaozu (256 BCE-1 June
195 BCE) born Liu Bang. Was the founder and
the first emperor of the Han dynasty, reinging
from 202-195 BCE. His temple name was taizu
while his posthumous name was “Emperor
Gao” “Gaozu of Han”, derived from the record
of the grand historian, is the common way of
referring to this sovereign even though he was
not accorded the temple name “gaozu”. Liu
bang was one of the few dynasty founder in
Chinese history who was born in a peasent
family.

THE RISE OF HAN DYNASTY

• The han dynasty begin with a plesent


revolt against the Qin Emperor it was led
by Liu Bang son of a peasent family. Once
the Qin Emperor was killed there was war
for four years between Liu Bang and his
rival Xiang Yu.Liu Bang won the war and
become emperor
THE INVENTIONS OF HAN DYNASTY

• The han dynasty invention ware the greatest


invention not just in Chinese but across the
globe .
• The han invented many things including
magnetic compasses, loom, paper, the silk
road, wheelbarrow, cast iron, hot air balloon,
and the seismograph
END OF HAN DYNASTY

• The Han dynasty formally ended in 220 when Cao


Cao’s son and heir, cao pi pressured emperor Xian
into abdicating in his favour… the period from the
fall on the han dynasty in 220 to the partial
reunification of china under the jin dynasty in 265
was known as the three kingdoms era in Chinese
history
