What is fluid ?
A fluid is a substance that continually
deform under an applied shear stress.
OR
Fluid is substance which cannot resist any
shear force on it.
Now what is fluid statics?
The study of incompressible fluids under statics
condition is called fluid statics.
OR
Hydrostatics and that dealing with the compressible
statics gases is termed as statics.
OR
It is the branch of fluid mechanics that deals with the
behavior of fluid when they are at rest.
Introduction /description
Fluid statics and fluid dynamics form the two
constituents of fluid mechanics.
Fluid statics deals with fluids at rest while fluid
dynamics studies fluids in motion.
A fluid at rest has no shear stress. Consequently, any
force developed is only due to normal stresses i.e.
hydrostatics condition.
Applications
Manometer ( pressure gauge)
The manometer is an important device for
measuring pressure differences.
U tube manometer
Inclined manometer
Differential manometer
U tube manometer
It is simplest form of manometer, it
consist of glass tube bend in U-shape
one end of which is connected to a
point at which pressure is to be
measured and other end remains
open to the atmosphere.
Inclined manometer
Used for measuring small
differences in pressure.
This type of manometer is more
sensitive because of inclination the
distance moved by the heavy liquid
in the right limb will be more.
Differential manometer
