LEADERSHIP

Leadership is generally defined simply

as the process of influencing people to
direct their efforts towards achievement
of some particular goal or goals.
ROLE OF LEADERSHIP

Role of leadership is one of the most important factor

in an organization. It can make the employees good or
bad and also make the organization to grow and fall.
As a leader, you're forced to play multiple roles within
your teams and your organization as whole. No
matter the size of a business, the services it provides,
or the growth it's experiencing, the drive behind it
comes from leadership.

-here are four roles that every leader must understand and utilize:
SETTING A CLEAR VISION
It means influencing employees to understand
and accept the future state of the organization.
A unit of young soldiers may not believe in a
particular mission ordered by their
commanding officer. A good leader will
influence the soldiers to perform their duties by
explaining the vision and the importance of
their role in the outcome. The soldiers will be
more apt to follow.
SETTING PLAN

“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the

way, and shows the way” (John C. Marewell).

. Once they provide the vision the next step is to

formulate the road map or strategy to achieve
that vision after providing the way next step is
to direct the people towards change. To direct
people leader can use motivational tools.
MOTIVATING EMPLOYEES
It means to find out enough about the needs
and wants of employees, giving them what they
need and providing praise for a job well done.
Being far from home is lonely for a young
soldier. A good leader knows this and will
communicate with his unit to learn more about
their needs and wants. It may be as simple as
giving the soldiers a sweet treat for their
efforts.
DECISION MAKING
No matter what the business climate, a leader
must be able to make decisions that reflect the
best interests of a company’s short-term and
long-term goals. In ideal situation, leaders take
time to weigh options, consider consequence
and stand by their decisions once made. A
strategic decision-maker may rely on team
members and others with specific expertise to
help support their decisions, using the
resources available to make choices in the best
interest of the business.
CONFLICT MANAGEMENT
Leaders have to manage conflict in the
workplace, which can be a formidable task in
some industries. Resolving conflict is about
more than choosing sides; it is about weighing
the priorities of the parties involved, resolving
the situation in an effective way, and learning
from the experience as a whole. Efficient
conflict management is not just a valued skill, it
is a cost-saving measure. Conflicts can lead to
high employee turnover, which is a financial
burden to a business.

STYLE OF LEADERSHIP

Leadership style is the manner and approach of

providing direction, implementing plans, and
motivating people.
The first major study of leadership styles was performed in 1939
by Kurt Lewin who led a group of researchers to identify different
styles of leadership (Lewin, Lippit, White, 1939). This early study
has remained quite influential as it established the three major
leadership styles.

Autocratic
The leader tells his or her employees what to do
and how to do it, without getting their advice.
Direct supervision is what they believe to be key
in maintaining a successful environment and
follower ship. Authoritarian leadership styles
often follow the vision of those that are in
control, and may not necessarily be compatible
with those that are being led.

DEMOCRATIC
The leader includes one or more employees in the
decision making process, but the leader normally
maintains the final decision making authority.
Everyone is given the opportunity to participate,
ideas are exchanged freely, and discussion is
encouraged.

Researchers have found that the

democratic leadership style is one of the most
effective types and leads to higher productivity,
better contributions from group members, and
increased group morale.

LAISSEZ-FAIR (FREE RAIN)
The leader allows the employees to make the
decisions, however, the leader is still responsible for
the decisions that are made.

Laissez-faire leaders allow followers to have

complete freedom to make decisions concerning the
completion of their work. It allows followers a self-
rule, while at the same time offering guidance and
support when requested. The laissez-faire leader
using guided freedom provides the followers with all
materials necessary to accomplish their goals, but
does not directly participate in decision making
unless the followers request their assistance.

TRANSACTIONAL
Transactional leadership, also known as managerial
leadership, focuses on the role of supervision,
organization, and group performance. Leaders who
implement this style focus on specific tasks and use
rewards and punishments to motivate followers.

In transactional leadership, rewards and punishments

are contingent upon the performance of the followers.
The leader views the relationship between managers

and subordinates as an exchange – you give me

something for something in return. When

subordinates perform well, they receive a reward. When
they perform poorly, they will be punished in some way.

TRANSFORMATIONAL
Transformational leadership is a leadership style that can
inspire positive changes in those who follow.
Transformational leaders are generally energetic,
enthusiastic, and passionate. Not only are these leaders
concerned and involved in the process. Some of the basic
characteristics of transformational leadership are
inspirational, in that the leader can inspire workers to find
better ways of achieving a goal; mobilization, because
leadership can mobilize people into groups that can get
work done, and morale, in that transformational leaders
raise the well-being and motivation level of a group
through excellent rapport. They are also good at conflict
resolution.
