Delhi master plan tries to address numerous problems which are Vision 2021 is to make Delhi a global metropolis
faced by residents in the city and provide policies to solve these and a WORLD CLASS city ,where all the people
problems. would be engaged in productive work with a better
quality of life, living in a sustainable environment
Study of Master Plan of Delhi is also important as it acts as
guideline for various other cities and is one of the most
comprehensive master plans.
The main objective of master plan is to give
direction to future growth of the development
area and making viable and practicable
adjustment in the already developed
unplanned land.

plan, achievements and validity in today’s
context.
• Formulation of proper goals and objectives
for city’s organized development.
• To provide the citizens with basic amenities/

ZONES IN DELHI
 New Delhi Zone: New Delhi Zone is an urban district of Delhi which serves as the capital of
India and seat of all three branches of the Government of India. The foundation stone of the city
was laid by Emperor George V during the Delhi Durbar of 1911. It was designed by British
architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker.
 North Delhi Zone : North Delhi is an administrative district of the National Capital Territory of
Delhi in India. North Delhi is bounded by the Yamuna River on the east.
 North East Delhi Zone: North East Delhi is one of the eleven administrative districts of Delhi,
India. The District was established in 1997. North East Delhi is major residential area for the
white collar class society. It is separated into three sub-divisions Seelampur Shahdara and Seema

 North West Delhi Zone:North West Delhi is an administrative district of the National Capital

 South Zone:South Delhi is an administrative district of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in

Faridabad District of Haryana state to the southeast, Gurgaon District of Haryana to the
southwest, and South West Delhi to the west.
 South West Zone:South West Delhi is one of the eleven administrative districts of the National
Capital Territory of Delhi in India. Subcity of Dwarka serves as the administrative headquarters
of South West Delhi.Major attractions are Sulabh International Museum of toilet , Iskcon
Temple , Kalibari Temple Etc
 West Delhi Zone: West Delhi is bound by the districts of North West Delhi to the north,
North Delhi and Central Delhi to the east, South West Delhi to the south, and Jhajjar District of
Haryana state to the west.
 East Delhi Zone :East Delhi is an administrative district of the National Capital Territory of
Delhi in India.It is bounded by the Yamuna River on the west, North East Delhi to the north,
Ghaziabad District of Uttar Pradesh state to the east, and Gautam Buddha Nagar District of Uttar
Pradesh to the south.The most famous attraction of this zone is Akshardham Temple and Sanjay
Lake.
 Central Zone:Known as Heart of India and the Imperial Capital created by the British Empire.
The initial capital of British Raj was Kolkata ; however they decided to move their capital to
Delhi in 1911.
