Background
Body odor is one of the problems that interfere
with everyday life. The sweat of apocrine
contains fat and protein, which when described
by bacteria will cause unpleasant smell, this smell
is known to body odor.
Bacteria that can cause body odor are
Staphylococcus epidermidis, S. aureus, S.
pyogenes, C. acne (diphtheroid), and
Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacteria
that can survive at sufficiently high temperatures
(temperature 50 ºC for 30 minutes) and grow well in
various media.
Staphylococcus aerus is a normal bacterial flora that
is dominant in the skin, especially underarm skin that
cause body odor.
Cosmetics Deodorant is a material that can be used
to eliminate or reduce bad body odor. Deodorants
generally contain antibacterial active substances that
can be derived from nature as well as synthesis
materials. One example of natural ingredients is
Pandan wangi (Pandanus amaryllifolius).
Pandan Wangi Leaves are also known to contain
antibacterial substances. Some studies have proven
the ability of pandan wangi leaves to inhibit bacterial
growth.
The chemical content of Pandan wangi (Pandanus
amaryllifolius) leaves that include flavonoids,
alkaloids, saponins, tannins, polyphenols, and dyes,
is thought to have contributed to antibacterial
activity.
The results of research conducted by Faras, et al
(2014) which proves that water extract and pandan
wangi leaf ethanol able to inhibit the growth of E.
coli and S. aureus bacteria.
