The Art of Listening

What is Listening?
• Listening is an integral part of the process of
communication and is a process in itself. It is not
simple or passive, but it is complex and active.

• It is to hear what someone has said and

understand that it is serious, important, or true.
Two types of listening
• Passive listening
In passive listening, you listen passively,
at a low level of concentration and absorb the
minimum number of words.
• Active listening
Active listening involves a higher level of
concentration. You listen actively at school,
university or work, when you need to obtain
information.
