Working Drawings and their Application
• It is essential to the success of a workman of the present time that he should be able to
read ordinary working drawings readily, and to take measurements from them
intelligently. He should also understand the relation between the scaled drawing and the
work that he is to produce from it.
• The difference between a photograph, or a perspective view, and a working drawing, lies
in the fact that the former shows the object approximately as it appears to the eye, and
is an end in itself; while a working drawing is made with but slight regard for artistic
effect, and is simply a means to an end. In other words, the purpose of a working
drawing is to convey to the mind of the workman, in the plainest and simplest manner
possible, the idea which is in the mind of the draftsman.
