A synthesis is a discussion
that:
• draws on one or more
sources
• infers relationship heavily on
comparison
SYNTHESIS PRACTICE:

•Think of the best person you can


imagine and the worst person you
can imagine. Do not mention their
name. Afterwards, make a synthesis of
their characteristics to mention the
ideal person in your mind.
SYNTHESIS

•Synthesis refers to the bringing of


materials from different sources
together as an integrated whole.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF
SYNTHESIS:
1. Explanatory synthesis- helps the readers
understand the topic. The primary aim is to
present the facts in an objective manner.
Details may come from descriptions, events.
2. Argument synthesis- presents your own
point of view with support of relevant facts
drawn from services and presented in a
logical manner.
PROCEDURES IN WRITING THE
SYNTHESIS:
1. Consider the purpose in writing
2. Select and read carefully your sources,
according to your purpose.
3. Formulate a thesis. It is the main ideas that
you want to present in your synthesis.
4. Decide how you will use your source
materials and take down notes.
5. Develop an organizational plan
according to your thesis.
6. Write the first draft of your
synthesis.
7. Revise accordingly.
TECHNIQUES FOR WRITING THE
SYNTHESIS:
1. Summary- write it for the relevant information
gathered.
2. Example or Illustration- an illuminating example or
illustration (which credits your sources too)
3. Two (or more) Reasons- give the thesis and state
why it is true, supported by evidence.
4. Comparison and contrast- similarities and
differences between information
