HAZARD
A situation that poses a
level of threat to life,
health, property or
environment.
RISK
The probability that
exposure to a hazard will
lead to a negative
consequence.
Three modes of hazard
Dormant • Has the potential to be harmful

Armed
• People, property, or environment are in
potential harm’s way

Active • The hazard has actually occurred

BIOLOGICAL HAZARD
One originating from an
organism that is foreign
to the organism being
affected
CHEMICAL HAZARD
Intrinsic chemical
properties that causes
harm or danger to
humans, property, or the
environment
MECHANICAL HAZARD
Hazard involving a
machine or process
Picture analysis
•Examine given
pictures, classify as
to the type of
hazard.
Assessment:
Read and answer the test
questions carefully and
silently. Make sure to review
your answers before
passing your papers.
Assignment:
Make a compilation of news
clippings highlighting the
hazards in a workplace. Classify
each news clippings as to the
type of hazard present in each
news.
