INTRODUCTION
We had studied the usage of
electricity by various
departments in LPU campus.
After completing this case
study we came to know that
how much electricity is used in
LPU campus and we found the
things that wastes a lot of
electric energy.

OBJECTIVE
Main objective of our case study was

 To know the usage and wastage of electricity .

 To find the ways to reduce the wastage of


electricity wasted by different departments.

 To aware students about the usage of electricity


and reduce the wastage of electricity.
 To aware the students about the impact of
wastage on environment while making electricity.

FIELDWORK
WE COMPLETED THIS STUDY BY FOLLOWING WAYS

 Visits to different labs such as ece lab, physics lab.

 Interaction with students.

 Visit and Interaction with some sub station officials.

 Visit to classrooms and computer labs.

 Visit to food court shops & interaction with owners

NTERACTION WITH STUDENT
We interacted with students and had a short talk on :

 How they use various electronic equipment.

 Do they switch off or leave switches on after use.

 Do they use ACs and fans together or one at a time.

 How much time they use chargers for mobile and


laptops.

After all these type of talks we told them to


use electricity wisely and told them the ways
to save energy. We told them the importance
and benefits of saving energy

VISIT TO LABS
We visited different labs and collected following information :

 In cse labs computers are turned on at the starting of


lecture even there is no use of them and in some of the
labs systems were turned on even after class was over.

 In ece labs equipment are kept off till teacher asks to


turn on the power supply as the equipment are sensitive.

 In physics lab some of equipment kept off while some


requires early switch on state.

So after collecting this data we advised students to turn on


Computers when required and asked them to save energy.
We asked students to aware other students also regarding this

VISIT TO SHOPS
We visited some of the shops in food courts and
collected following data :

 Visited juice and shakes shops and asked if they switch


off juicers and all of them told they switch off at closing
time.
 Fly catcher are turned on whole off the day even if
there aren’t flies.
 Some of them don’t turn off lights even during day
times.

After collecting this data we asked them to turn off


the
lights and other things while not in use .
We asked them to turn off power of juicers while
not in use.

ISIT TO SUB STATION We talked on following matters to the officials :

 Electricity consumption per month.


(approx. 20.5 lakhs units)

 Cost of electricity consumed per month.


(approx. 2cr INR)

 Sources of electricity in LPU campus.


1. Most of electricity is provided by govt.
( approx. 4 mega watt per month)
2. Solar power plant of LPU.

3. In case if shut down condition generators


are also there

OBSERVATIONS
We observed that all of us wastes electricity
daily
knowingly unknowingly. We observed that
most of
electricity is consumed in hostels. After
hostels cse
department uses a lot of energy for
computers.
We observed that most of energy is wasted
by hostellers as they don’t turn off switches
of charging plugs after use , light blubs
during day time and many times they don’t
turn off geysers also which results in the
wastage of electricity. In classrooms all the
lights are burned even if the daylight is
appropriate to see. In many classrooms
students left the fans and lights on even
after all the lectures over and even during
lunch breaks.

CONCLUSION
By this case study we learned that we
should use electricity in a better way .
We shouldn’t waste electricity because
it will directly or indirectly affects
environment.
Secondly it affects the economy also.
We should use renewable source of
energy also which is eco friendly such
as solar energy wind energy.by using
energy smartly we can preserve
environment directly or indirectly and
thus we can play an important role to
improve the health of degrading
environment.
