MATTER

OBJECTIVES
A. To identify Solid, Liquid and
Gasses from particle model.

B. To explain why solid, liquid

and gasses are different relative
to their particles.
MOTIVATION
Pick Up
Ano ang pinagkaiba mo sa tubig?
Lines!
Ang tubig iniigib;
Ikaw, iniibig.

Boy: Tubig ka ba? Kasi kung hindi mo ako crush, wala kang taste.
Girl: Eh ikaw, tubig ka ba?
Boy: Bakit?
Girl: Kasi I can’t wait for you to evaporate.

Tubig ka ba? kasi ikaw ang pinakamalaking bahagi ng mundo ko.

Para kang Gas Station, u fill me up and keep me going

Bato ka ba? Coz you Rock my World!

ACTIVITIES
Group 1

ILLUSTRATE!
1. Cut circles in different colors. Circle will represent a
particle of an atom.
2. Arrange the particles according to its states of matter.

Group 3
Students will create a bulleted list that defines and describes the four
states of matter.

Group 5 : Blowing Up!
How you do it:

• Use a funnel to add 1/3 cup baking soda

to the inside of a balloon.
• Fill a plastic bottle with approximately 1
cup vinegar.
• Attach the balloon to the mouth of the
plastic bottle, then lift the balloon upright
so the baking soda falls and causes the
reaction.
Questions:
1.What do you think will happen when baking
soda and vinegar come in contact (what will be
produced)?

2.What do you think will happen to the balloon

attached? What makes balloon to inflate?
What is
Matter?
Matter
anything that
has mass and
takes up space

STATES
OF
MATTER
SOLID
Solids have a definite
shape and a definite
volume.
Particles of solids are
tightly packed,
vibrating about a
fixed position.
LIQUID
Liquids have an
indefinite shape and a
definite volume.
Particles of liquids are
tightly packed, but are
far enough apart to
slide over one another.
GAS
Particles of gases
are very far apart
and move freely.
Gases have an
indefinite shape and
an indefinite volume.
PLASMA
• A plasma is an ionized gas.
• A plasma is a very good
conductor of electricity and
is affected by magnetic
fields.
• Plasma, like gases have an
indefinite shape and an
indefinite volume.
EVALUATION
1. A gas has (_________) and
sometimes we can’t (____) it or
(______) it.
2. A solid is (_______) , has a (_______)
and we can see it and (_______) it.
3. A (________ has no shape, but it
takes the (________) of the container
it’s
see in.feel gas no shape liquid
form heavy shape
KEY

1. A gas has (no shape)and sometimes

we can’t (see) it or (feel) it.
2. A solid is (heavy) , has a (shape)
and we can see it and (feel) it.
3. A (liquid) has no shape, but it takes
the (form) of the container it’s in.
