 ZERO CONDITIONAL

⊷ In English there are several types of conditional, among

them, the zero conditional. This type of
conditional is used in situations in which if a
condition is met, the same result always
occurs .

 If you don't put sun cream on,

you get burnt.  If you get a virus, call the IT specialist.
 Si no te pones crema solar,  Si tienes un virus, llama al informático.

STRUCTURE

Conditionals are sentences composed of two sentences.

The zero conditional has the following structure:

If + sujeto + present simple, sujeto + present simple

The zero conditional structure is formed using the simple
present in both sentences.

IF - CLAUSE MAIN - CLAUSE

Present Simple Present Simple

If clause: If you heat ice, (Si caliento hielo,)

Main clause: it melts. (se derrite.)

 The order of the two sentences that make up the structure of the
conditional can be changed. If we start with the condition (If), we will
separate them with a comma. If we start with the phrase that
expresses the result, it is not necessary to put the comma.

If water reaches 100ºC, it boils. Water boils if it reaches 100ºC.
Si el agua llega a 100ºC, hierve. El agua hierve si llega a los 100ºC.

 HOW IS THE ZERO
CONDITIONAL USED?
The zero conditional is used to express facts that are always true as, for example,
scientific facts, scientific laws, general truths .

You get orange if you mix red and
If I eat hot dog, I get ill.
