NATURE VS NURTURE

Nature refers to all of the genes and hereditary factors that influence who we are—
from our physical appearance to our personality characteristics.
 Nature refers to all the genes and hereditary factors influencing human beings
from physical appearances to personality characteristics.

 It includes all influences based on the genetic makeup of an individual that

influence growth and development throughout life.

 Nature is biological factor determined by or before birth like hormones, brain

structure, genes etc.

 Nurture refers to all the environmental variables that impact who we are,
including our early childhood experiences, how we were raised, our social
relationships, and our surrounding culture.
 Nature is what we think of as pre-wiring and is influenced by genetic
inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is generally taken as the
influence of external factors after conception, e.g., the product of exposure, life
experiences and learning on an individual.
 Nurture implies all the environmental variables that impacts an individual.

 It includes all social and environmental factors like learning, family friends,
socio-economic status.

 It also includes our early childhood, social relationships, growth, surrounding

culture.
A few examples of biologically determined characteristics
(nature) include certain genetic diseases, eye color, hair
color, and skin color. Identical and Fraternal Twins.
Some characteristics are tied to environmental influences.
How a person behaves can be linked to influences such
as parenting styles and learned experiences. For example, a
child might learn through observation and reinforcement
to say 'please' and 'thank you.' Another child might learn to
behave aggressively by observing older children engage in
violent behavior on the playground.
Albert Bandura, Social Learning Theory
The nature versus nurture debate involves the extent
to which particular aspects of behavior are a product
of either inherited (i.e., genetic) or acquired (i.e.,
learned) influences.
The nature-nurture debate is concerned with the
relative contribution that both influences make to
human behavior, such as personality, cognitive
traits, temperament.
