INTRODUCTION –

It is a constitutional , long and deep acting remedy , as it is corrosive and an irritant , it is mostly
suitable for acute and chronic diseases. This remedy correspond to all three miasm therefore , is an
invaluable remedy in the treatment of chronic disease.

Nitric acid is a colorless , highly corrosive , transparent liquid , stains brown , it is used for removal of
warts , ulcer and granulation.

DESCRIPTION –

It is fuming liquid which is very caustic and has a characteristically highly irritating odour. It is soluble
in water and dilute alcohol in all proportions . It attacks most metals , evolving brown fumes.

DURATION OF ACTION – 40 TO 60 DAYS

CONSTITUTION –

It is best adapted to lean, thin, debilitated and weak persons with rigid fibres , black hair , eyes
and dark complexion. Also indicated in broken down , cachetic , emaciated and anaemic person
with ugly appearance.

TEMPERAMENT – Nervous and irritable.

RELATION WITH HEAT AND COLD – Chilly patient.

MIASM – Covers all three miasms – Psora, Sycosis and Syphilis.

DIATHESIS – Haemorrhagic diathesis.

SPHERE OF ACTION :

• SKIN AND MUCOUS MEMBRANE : muco-cutaneous junction – fissures , cracks and ulcers with pricking
and sticking pain as from splinters . Skin is dry , stained and yellowish brown or coppery . Profuse
offensive sweat.

• BLOOD, GLANDS, BONES : Haemorrhagic tendency ( from nose , bowel , urine , etc.) Inflammation and
suppuration of glands .

• GIT : Gastric ulcer. Haemorrhoids ,fissures , fistulas

PATHOGENESIS :

• It produce intense irritation resulting in inflammation and destructive ulceration of parts , even gangrene .

• The entire action of Nitricum acidum points to a violent dyscrasia or poison resembling either the syphilitic ,
scrofulous or
mercurial miasm.
KEYNOTES –

• Affects the mucous outlets of the body at the junction of skin and mucous – mouth , nose , rectum
, anus , urethra , fissure etc.

• Bright red haemorrhage from all outlets of the body .

• Excessive physical irritability – Sensitive to least noise , touch , pain and jar.

• Sensation of band around head , bones of a splinter in affected in parts . Ulcers, piles , in growing toe
nails < least contact .

• Great general weakness , feeble , extreme , sensitivity and nervous trembling with marked aneamia and
emaciation

• Thin , offensive acrid discharge of a dirty brown yellowish colour . Corrosiveness of discharge is
marked

• Cracking in ears on masticating joints .

• Old people who suffer from great weakness and diarrhoea.

MENTAL GENERALS –

• Fear of death, uneasiness regarding health, with anxiety about recovery.

• Weakness of intellectual faculties; unfit for mental labour.

• Easily startled and frightened. Sadness, despondency.

• Attacks of rage, with curses and mal-addictions.

• Constantly thinking about his past troubles, fear of cholera.

• General indifference to all matter hopelessness , despair and sadness with indifference and mental
irritability.

• Self willed, headstrong and obstinate person – entreaty, apology, love are equally incapable of moving
him.

• Loss of sleep; long lasting anxiety due to mental affections

• Very peevish, easily angered at trifling matters, excitable and nervous.

GUIDING SYMPTOMS –

• Desire - Indigestible things such as charcoal, chalk , stone , fat etc

• Aversion – Bread and Meat .

• Putridity – All discharges are thin , dirty brown , offensive and excoriating .

• Hearing – Hardness of hearing , relieved by riding in a carriage or train .

• Sensitiveness– Great sensitiveness to touch , slightest jar or movement , Takes cold easily

• Irritability – Great irritability – mentally and physically with nervous trembling and much sensitiveness

• Weakness – Great exhaustion , weakness and debility .

• Pain – Pain comes suddenly and goes suddenly Sticking and pricking sensation ; splinter like pains

• Bleeding – Haemorrhagic tendency ; Blood bright red and profuse ; bleeding from the nose , mouth ,
• uterus.
• Bones – Ulcers of bones ; pain worse at night. Caries of mastoid process . Syphilitic bones pain .
Softening of bones

• Perspiration – Easily perspire ; then take cold ; sweat is very offensive on feet and in armpits .

• Leucorrhea – Leucorrhea only at night time , acrid and offensive

• Coition – Coition is very painful in both sexes followed by bleeding from the vagina.

• Tongue – Tongue mapped , with red insular patches ; like ringworm on sides .

• Restlessness – Great restlessness ; extreme and protracted suffering from loss of sleep.

• Warts – Fig warts with intolerable itching and. Burning ; exuberant granulation
PARTICULAR –

HEAD -
• Crushing headache < in morning on waking , from street noise , pressure of hat , > on
• lying down or riding in carriage

• . Sensation as of a band around head.

• Sensation as if someone was forcibly pressing head.

• Painful tension within head extending to eyes with nausea

• Skull sore

• Scalp sensitive with puffy swelling

• Falling of hair from vertex, due to syphilis and debility .

• Aggravation – least motion , jar , noise , morning on waking .

• Ameloriation – wrapping up , rising ,riding in a carriage.
SKIN –

• Dry , eroded cracked .

• Deep bleeding rhagades .

• Warts , condylomata ; sycotic or syphilitic ;large, jagged pedunculated bleeding readily on washing , ,
• oozing.

• Ulcers ; sensitive ,zigzag, irregular edges ; base looks like raw flesh ; ragged , with proud flesh or
• plug of pus .

• Yellow curved nails with splinter sensation under the nails.

• There is profuse bright red bleeding from these cracks , fissure , and ulcers
GENITO – URINARY TRACT –
• Inflammation of urinary tract , frequent urge to urinate

• Urine – scanty , dark , bloody , abluminous , offensive or strong odour like horses urine , cold on
voiding.

• Diuresis.burning and stinging on urination.

• Stricture of urethra , urine flows in thin stream .

• Red sediment and sand in urine.

GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM

TONGUE -
• Ulcerated , raw, sore and fissures tongue

STOMACH –
• Longing for fat , salt ,lime ,chalk etc

• Bread and meat cause strong aversion to food ; milk disagree
•
MOUTH –

• Ulcer or aothae in the mouth with burning pain

• . Foul cadaveric colour from mouth .

• Acrid saliva from the mouth exocriates the lips.

ABDOMEN -

• Distended and tender abdomen with great pain in ileo ceacal region < from motion.

• Relaxed condition in weakly infant boys that disposes to inguinal hernia.

• The liver is seriously affected , as a result there is obstinate bowels

FEMALE COMPLAINT –

• Bleeding excrecences in the vagina and on the mouth of uterus

• Menses : Menses are too early and profuse , dark red blood with muddy water .

During menses: The patient complaint of pains in thigh , labour like pains in the abdomen
and back ,
palpitation , anxiety, trembling and tiredness.

Leucorrhea : Greenish , yellow acrid and offensive discharge.

CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM –

 Dysponea , palpitation of the heart and anguish when going upstairs


 Congestion of heart Nervous palpitation , < mental excitement

 Pulse irregular ; one normal beat follow with two rapid beats

 Fourth entirety intermit alternate hard , rapid and small beats

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

THROAT –
• Splinter like pain on swallowing and sensation of fish bone .

• Hawks mucus constantly

COUGH -

• Dry , barking , shaking with obstructed respiration < during sleep , night

• Cough with shooting pain in chest and throat , as if part exocriated.

• Cough causing anxiety and vomiting of mucus and food

• . Whistling inspiration with rapes , short breath on going upstairs

• Hoarsness , aphonia with dry hacking cough from tickling in larynx and pit of stomach
NOSE –

 Coryza with sore and bleeding nostrils.

 Coryza is thin , yellow or green , watery , offensive , excoriating discharge.

 Nasal orifice sore and bleed easily .

 Redness of tip of nose , Itching on alae nasi , stitches as if splinter in nose when touched

 Nose bleed with chest affection , Ozaena .

Caries of nasal septum

 Nasal diptheria with watery , excoriatong discharges

CARIES OF MASTIOD –

 Excoriation behind ears , with itching and suppuration

FACE –

• Paleness of face , with deep – sunken eyes .

• Yellow colour of face and especially round the eyes , with redness of cheeks.

• Swelling around eyes , < morning , tearing and cramp like pain in cheeks and zygomatic process.

• Black pores in face , Cracks and ulceration of lips and corners.

• Cracking of jaws when chewing and eating.

EYES –

• Eyes dull and sunken

• Inflammation of eyes , especially after suppressed syphilis or after the abuses of mercury with sharp ,
sticking pain.

• Fistula lachrymalis , paralysis of upper eyelids , Myopia , diplopia , most, spots , nets, sparks and black
spots

• Double vision of horizontal objects , corneal ulceration , sensitive to light ( photophobia).

FEVER –
 Thirstless in all stages .

 Cold hands and feet .

 Chronic intermittent and cachetic constitutions , copious night sweats , extreme weakness and
character odour of urine.

 In ulcerative stage of typhoid fever there may be profuse bright red haemorrhage from the bowel

 Fainting on slightest exertion .

 In pneumonic complications there is threatening paralysis of lungs with loud rattling of mucus .
GENERAL MODALITIES –

AGGRAVATION – Evening , night, after midnight contact , change of weather and temperature , during
sweat and on
. waking , while walking .

AMELIORATION – While riding in a carriage
