• ONE OF THE MAIN CAUSES OF THE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE IS THAT A GREAT
PROBLEM CAN BE OBSERVED IN THE COUNTRIES OF CENTRAL AMERICA THAT
CAUSE MASSIVE MIGRATION. OF COURSE, THESE MIGRATIONS ALSO OCCUR IN
SOUTH AMERICA, BUT WE WILL FOCUS ON CENTRAL AMERICA; THAT STILL
AFFECTS US.
NO ONE LEAVES THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN WITHOUT A JUSTIFIED REASON,
MUCH LESS MILES OF PEOPLE AT THE SAME TIME OR IN A CONSTANT PERIOD
WHERE THE ECONOMY OF THE COUNTRY FROM WHICH THEY LEAVE IS AFFECTED
AS IN THE COUNTRY OF ARRIVAL.
THE CAUSES OF THIS MIGRATION CAN VARY DUE TO INSECURITY, LACK OF
OPPORTUNITIES, THREATS, CORRUPTION, AMONG OTHERS.
BACKGROUND

• ON OCTOBER 19, THOUSANDS OF CENTRAL AMERICAN MIGRANTS

ATTEMPTED TO CROSS THE BRIDGE BETWEEN GUATEMALA AND MEXICO,
SEEKING SECURITY IN THE NORTH. THE MEDIA ISSUED THE PAINFUL
MOANS OF PEOPLE CRUSHED AGAINST EACH OTHER AND THE CRIES OF
CHILDREN. WE SAW THE DESPERATE LOOKS OF THE MOTHERS WHEN
THE MEXICAN AUTHORITIES TRIED TO PUSH BACK THE CROWD OF
PEOPLE WITH CANES AND PEPPER GAS. THE NEXT DAY THEY WERE
ALLOWED TO CROSS.
• LAS PRINCIPALES RAZONES POR LAS CUALES LOS MIGRANTES DECIDIERON
MARCHARSE DE SUS PAÍSES DE ORIGEN ES POR LA CANTIDAD DE
DESIGUALDAD QUE EXISTEN EN ESTOS, DONDE LOS POLÍTICOS CORRUPTOS

LA MAYORÍA DE SALVADOREÑOS RECALCAN QUE LOS "MARAS” AMENAZAN,
ASESINAN O SECUESTRAN A LOS JÓVENES QUE NO SE UNAN A ESTAS
PANDILLAS. O EL CASO DE HONDURAS QUE RESALTA EL ÍNDICE DE

• THIS MASSIVE MIGRATION HAS CAUSED AN INCREASE IN THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE,

SINCE MIGRANTS ARE STAYING IN CERTAIN ILLEGAL TERRITORIES, "TAKING AWAY" JOBS
FROM RESIDENT PEOPLE.
GOVERNMENTS LOSE CONTROL AND WORKFORCE EVERY TIME THERE IS ANOTHER
CARAVAN, AS IN JANUARY 2019 IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT 2,000 HONDURANS MARCHED
BACK TO THE UNITED STATES AND HUNDREDS OF SALVADORANS AND GUATEMALANS
WOULD JOIN IT AGAIN.
COLOMBIA HAS FTAS WITH THE COUNTRIES INVOLVED, CAUSING THESE TREATIES TO
REMAIN INACTIVE OR NOT 100% EXPLOITED.
THE ENTRY OF MIGRANTS ILLEGALLY CAUSES LACK OF CONTROL AT THE BORDERS OF
THE COUNTRIES.
THIS MIGRATION HAS CAUSED THE AFFECTED COUNTRIES TO DEMAND RESOURCES
FROM SEVERAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS, TO INVEST THEM IN HUMANITARIAN AID,
TROOP DEPLOYMENT AND INCREASED SECURITY IN THE TERRITORY.
