Integrated

Crop-Livestock
Farming
System
Crop
• is a plant product that can be grown and
harvested extensively for profit or
subsistence.Crop may refer either to the
harvested parts or to the harvest in a more
refined state.
Livestock
• is commonly defined as domesticated
animals raised in an agricultural setting to
produce labor and commodities such as
meat, eggs, milk, fur, leather, and wool.
Integrated Crop-Livestock
Farming System
• The agricultural system that
combines both crop and livestock
production in which the by-product
of one system becomes the input
for other.
• Conventional agriculture is known to cause soil and
pasture degradation because it involves intensive
tillage, in particular if practiced in areas of
marginal productivity. An integrated crop-livestock
farming system represents a key solution for
enhancing livestock production and safeguarding
the environment.
• Integrating crops and livestock serves primarily to
minimize risk and not to recycle resources. Crops
and livestock interact to create a synergy, with
recycling allowing the maximum use of available
resources.
Role of the livestock
• Livestock is a source of food
• Source of draught power and dung
manure
• Acts as a cushion against income shock

the dung from the chickens is used to fertilize
the algae growth in the fish pond
• Such farming system increases production to meet the
demands
• Proper processing of waste and related substances
increases the profit of farmers
• oil remains fertile for a long time due to the correct use of
organic waste
• Integrated farming system ensures influx of income
