ROAD CASUALTIES COVERAGE
HOW IS CURRENT TRAFFIC
MANAGEMENT
 Traffic Police manage the traffic
moment manually using the hand
signals, which not only is a tedious
job but also creates havoc among
the commuters
 Minimum of 4 Traffic Police are
needed to operate one intersection
daily on each shift.
 Hazardous to health and prone to
accidents
SOME FROM MEDIA COVERAGE
WHY TRAFFIC LIGHT’S CAN’T BE OPERATED
SMOOTHLY IN NEPAL TILL DATE
 Lack of proper documentation about
technology
 Lack of experience

 Lack of coordination between stakeholders

 Lack of improvement and upgradation on

Traffic Light system in accordance to the
increased no of vehicles
 Lack of Training to Traffic police on
Technology operation.
 No guidelines for Traffic light and timing.

 Lack of proper operation and maintenance

PROBLEMS
 Lack of sufficient manpower with DOR and
local bodies.
 Operation and Maintenance guarantee not in
place : example Koteswor , Thapathali
 Our roads are different than foreign roads- so
we need Traffic light systems which are
customized as per our road needs than
importing the designs which might not suit
our conditions.
 Lack of interest to adapt changes and
upgrade
 Lack of Research and Development on
improvement of systems.

months For 150 intersection  13 years.
 For 500 pedestrian  25 Years.

SOLUTION AS PROPOSAL
 Public Private Partnership (PPP) model
 Under PPP model of 10 years time period, if
we are granted to install and operate 70 no’s
of intersection and 100 no’s of pedestrian’s
crossing traffic lights, we can install within
the period of 1 year, which can guarantee
operation and maintenance for 10 years
 For sustainability and regular operation and
maintenance advertising will be installed on
the same pole, which will not only help it
sustain but earn a revenue as a tax to the
government
BENEFITS OF PPP
 For Gov: Fast installation , Guaranteed
operation and maintenance, Resource
optimization, Made in Nepal project
 For Traffic : Uniform Traffic system,
