A. DEFINITION

The students work in teams or groups


consisting of several individual differences. This
collaborative learning atmosphere can promote
not only active learning, critical thinking,
interaction and skills in decision making but
also each other's learning success (Johnson et
al., 2014)
B. Advantages of Group Work

• Group work generates interactive language

• Group work offers an effective learning climate


• Group work promotes learner’s responsibility and
autonomy
• Group work promotes individualizing instruction
C. Drawback of Group Work

• The teacher is no longer in control of class

• Students will use their native language

• Student’s error will be reinforced in small groups

• Teachers cannot monitor all groups at once

• Some learners prefer to work alone


D. Implementing group work in class room

- introducing the technique,
- justifying the technique
- modeling,
- detail instruction,
- dividing the class into groups,
