Unit 2: Project Planning and Appraisal
Introduction, scope, problem statement, project goals, objectives, success criteria, hypothesis, risks,
obstacles, Approval process, projects and strategic planning. Project Appraisal- meaning, types of
appraisal, technical analysis and feasibility study.

Unit 3: Project Monitoring


Introduction, evaluation, control, project network technique, planning for monitoring and evaluation,
project audits. Project management information system, project scheduling, PERT and CPM. Project
communication, post project reviews.

Unit 4: Project Team Management
Introduction, recruitment and organizing of team members, team operating rules, Project organization,

complication of contracts, Practical aspects, legal aspects, global tenders, negotiations, project insurance.
Unit 5: Closing /Termination of Project
Introduction, causes of project termination, strategic implications. Termination- process, procedures and
strategies. Project completion and review.
Unit 6: Project Inventory Management
Meaning, nature of project inventory, Supply and transportation of materials, Inventory management
strategies.

 Project: A project in general is defined as the close


collaborative enterprise efforts put to achieve the predefined
goals beginning from idea generalization to the final
product/services given to the society.

 Projects can be further defined as the temporary rather than the


permanent social systems that are constituted by teams within
or across organizations to accomplish particular tasks under
time constraints.

1.1 Definition of Project
A set of linked or related activities that take inputs; utilizing these
inputs in predefined systematic manner so-that it can transfer into
the desired output. The purpose of project is to produce the
products/services for the use of customers/society.

 According to encyclopedia of Management, “Project is an


organized unit dedicated to the attainment of goal-the successful
completion of development project on time, within budget, in
conformance with the pre-determined specifications.

Project Plan
A project plan is a formal, approved document used to guide both project
execution and project control. The primary uses of the project plan are to
document planning assumptions and decisions, facilitate communication
among stakeholders, and document approved scope, cost, and schedule
baselines.

A project plan is a statement of how and when a project's objectives are to


be achieved, by showing the major products, milestones, activities and
resources required on the project.

Project Plan
The objective of a project plan is to define the approach to be used by
the Project team to deliver the intended project management scope of
the project. At a minimum, a project plan answers basic questions
about the project:
Why? - What is the problem or value proposition addressed by the
project? Why is it being sponsored?
What? - What is the work that will be performed on the project? What
are the major products/deliverables?
Who? - Who will be involved and what will be their responsibilities
within the project? How will they be organized?
When? - What is the project timeline and when will particularly
meaningful points, referred to as milestones, be complete?
