Introduction
Road safety is of immense importance towards well-being of
road users as well the economy of a nation. But more than
that, in today’s world, it is a big issue, the lack of which is
contributing to millions of fatalities all over the world. The
World Health Organization reports around 1.25 million
fatalities and 50 million injuries a year due to road-related
accidents alone. This is approximately equal to 3500 deaths
every day. The compound problem in developing nations
stems from roads which are rapidly constructed without
much regard to proper design or safety, a lack of attention to
vulnerable road users, and the absence of road safety culture.
Problem Statement
In India road accidents take place frequently
some by manual error and some due to
systematic error .
To avoid such accidents it is necessary to take
measures by conducting an audit for road
safety.

Methodology
• The first task is a comprehensive description of the road safety review
site. This description should contain geographic information,
demographic data and could even include a brief paragraph describing
location history. Providing a global picture of the area may assist in
making decisions or adjustments to temporal variations if needed
during the review. Once the location is described, the roadways
selected to be analyzed must be characterized. The data provided in
this section are obtained without visiting the site. This description
includes land classification, functional classification of the roadways
and other relevant characteristics such as speed limit. If available,
detailed maps and GIS data of the site should be incorporated in this
section. The roadway inventory, included in the field review section,
contains a more exhaustive description of the selected roadways.
