DISK OPERATING SYSTEUM
(DOS)
 “ OPERATING SYSTEUM ”
An operating system is the program that after beginning
initially loaded into the computer by a boot program
manager all the other program and computer the other
program are called application program or application.
The application program make use the operating system
by making request for services through defined application
program interface (API) .In addition user can interact
directly with the operating system through a user interface
such as a command language or a graphical user interface
(GUI).
 SERVICES OF OPERATING
SYSTEM FOR APPLICATION
• In multitasking operation system where multiple program
my be running at the same time.
• It manages the sharing of internal memory among multiple
application.
• It handles input and output to perform attached hardware
devices such as hard disk , printer ,etc.
• It sends message to each application about the status of
operating system and inform the computer about the errors
that have occurred in the computer due to some problem.
• In computer that provide parallel processing and operating
system (OS) can manage who to divide the program so that
it runs on more than one processor at a time.
 DISK OPERATING SYSTEM
(DOS)
DOS was the first widely installed operating system for
personal computer (Earlier the same name had been used
for an IBM operating system for aline of business system.
The first personal computer version of dos called PC dos was
developed for PC by Bill gates and his new Microsoft
corporation. He retained the right s to market a micro soft
version called MS dos . MS dos and PC dos are almost
identical and most referred to either of them as just dos.
 ABOUT M.S DOS
Microsoft dos is a command line user inter face first
introduced in 1981 for personal computer and was last
updated in 1994 . When MS dos (6.22) was released all the
MS dos is not commonly used today.

Microsoft window is a series of software operating system
produced by Microsoft .
Micro soft first introduced an operating environment named
window in November 1985 as an add onto MS dos and
response to the growing interest or graphical user interface
(GUI). Window come to dominate the world personal
computer market over taking Mac’os which had been
introduced previously. At 2004 IDC Direction
conference,IDC vice president Avneesh saxena stated that
window had approximately 90% of the client operating
system.
