INTRODUCTION
THE ART OF THE PHILIPPINES REFERS TO THE
WORKS OF ARTS THAT HAVE DEVELOPED
AND ACCUMULATED IN
THE PHILIPPINES FROM THE BEGINNING OF
CIVILIZATION IN THE COUNTRY UP TO THE
PRESENT ERA.
PHILIPPINE ART REFLECTS TO ITS SOCIETY AND NON-
FILIPINOS THE WIDE RANGE OF CULTURAL
INFLUENCES ON THE COUNTRY'S CULTURE AND
HOW THESE INFLUENCES HONED THE COUNTRY'S
ARTS. THE ART OF THE PHILIPPINES CAN BE DIVIDED
INTO TWO DISTINCT BRANCHES, NAMELY,
TRADITIONAL ARTS, AND NON-TRADITIONAL ARTS.
BACKGROUND OF
THE AUTHOR
LOPE K.
SANTOS
• A Filipino Tagalog
language writer and
former senator of the
Philippines.

• He is best known for his


1906 socialist novel,
Banaag at Sikat and to
his contributions for the
development of Filipino
grammar and Tagalog
orthography.
JORGE PINEDA
• Was a Filipino artist
known for his depictions
of daily life and
nationalist content.

• His work, painted with


loose, visible
brushstrokes and vibrant
colors presented an
idealized vision of life in
the Philippines through
images of military
victories, children
playing, and women
performing domestic
chores.
CONTEXT ANALYSIS
THE LIPANG KALABAW OF 1907-09
TACKLED THE RELEVANT ISSUES OF
POLITICS, SOCIETY, AND CULTURE OF
THE DAY. THE CARICATURES OF THE
FAMOUS PERSONALITIES OF THE ERA
MADE IT A VERY CONTROVERSIAL
MAGAZINE.
IN 1922, SANTOS REVIVED THE MAGAZINE, CALLING
IT BAGONG LIPANG KALABAW, AND WITH THE
BYLINE "GAMOT SA MAGAGALITIN AT
NALULUNGKOT", A POSSIBLE ATTEMPT BY SANTOS
NOT TO LET THE GHOST OF THE FIRST LIPANG
KALABAW HAUNT THE NEW ONE. IT MAY ALSO BE A
PLOY TO HIDE THE TRUE INTENT OF THE MAGAZINE:
TO ONCE AGAIN ATTACK THE BUREAUCRACY.
IN 1924, BAGONG LIPANG KALABAW WAS CLOSED
DOWN DUE TO A LIBEL SUIT FILED AGAINST IT IN
RELATION TO THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BANK
SCANDAL.
IN 1947, LIPANG KALABAW WAS ONCE AGAIN
RESURRECTED, ALBEIT BRIEFLY. SADLY, THIS LIPANG
KALABAW SERIES LACKED THE HUMOR OF THE
ORIGINAL SERIES. IT ALSO LACKED THE ARTISTS
WHO MADE THE LIPANG KALABAW ONE OF THE
BEST ILLUSTRATED WEEKLIES IN THE PHILIPPINES.

by the massive show of
support by Filipino
patriots and the singular
display of the American
flag amidst banners and
Philippine flags.

THE LEARNING PROCESS ALSO HELPS
TO LEARN ABOUT CRUCIAL TIMES IN
HISTORY AND KNOW EXACTLY HOW THE
EXPERIENCE OF THAT TIMELINE WAS
LIKE.
THE HISTORY BEHIND ARTWORKS AS AT
SEPARATE TIMES HELPS TO LEARN OF
DIFFERENT TRIBES AND THEIR
CULTURES. IT HAS ALSO HELPED IN A
LOT OF CASES TO LEARN OF THE
TRANSITION OF TIME IN BOTH SOCIAL,
POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC STAGES.
LEARNING EXPERIENCES
MY LEARNING EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS, FIRST,
GATHERING DATA IS THE HARDEST PART OF THE PROCESS, GETTING DATA
SHOULD HAVE CREDIBILITY ON IT AND MAKING IT SURE THAT IT HAS
REFERENCES/CITATION. SINCE OUR PRESENTATION IS ABOUT ARTWORK WE
NEEDED TO FIND SOME EDITORIAL CARTOONS AND OTHER ILLUSTRATIONS
THAT WILL SERVES AS OUR DATA FOR THE TOPIC. GOING TO THE LIBRARY
IS VERY HELPFUL BECAUSE THERE ARE SOURCES THERE THAT WE CAN
FIND AND I LEARNED THAT NOT ALL DATA IS IN THE INTERNET AND SOME
CAN ONLY FOUND IN THE BOOKS.
UPON DOING THE MATERIALS THAT WE WILL USE FOR THE PRESENTATION
WE WERE ABLE TO GET SOME SOURCES/DATA IN THE LIBRARY. WE WERE
ABLE TO COORDINATE BOTH IN SCHOOL AND ALSO OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL
BY THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY. TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE TECHNOLOGY
WILL MAKE THINGS EASIER TO COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER MEMBERS ON
WHAT/WHERE/WHEN TO DO A CERTAIN TASK. WE DIVIDED THE TASK AND
WE WERE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE FLOW OF OUR PRESENTATION AND
WHAT SHOULD THE OUTCOME BE.
